This year's senior members are Donna Hilsinger. Mark Ibsen, Linda Johnson, Doug Kendall, Marla Morrison, Barb Petniunas, Kent Soderstrum, Gail VanThournout, and Peggy Waters. The senior initiates are Cynthia Allen, Jane Ander- son, Jim Bruder, Miles Canada, Cindy Clauter, Rob Clodfelter, John Cook, Karen Cornick, Jean Dickin- son, Kristi Keeler, Eileen McDermott, Marcy Moline, Jim Morrison, Penny Morrison, Keith Peterson, Rick Peterson, Jon St. Pierre, Cynthia Seikman, John Smalley, and Terry Totz. 54 Donna Hilsinger. a graduation speaker Graduation Sitting stiffly in our graduation gowns we think mostly of freedom” and the parties ahead. Occasionally, however, apprehensions or excitement about the future cross our minds. Football Football, because of or in spite of collegiate, prep school connotations lures a great number of Geneva students and alumni to each weekly exhibition. Some come to analyze the plays, others love to follow the cheers, and some merely want to be out in the autumn night air. To the players football affords a chance for personal achievement or a test of stamina. The sense of team coop- eration and fellowship is inevitable even if it is just an excuse to give big parties. At the end of the season it is strange to remember the miserable, sultry double prac- tices in contrast to decisive victories on a chilling night. Season Record ’ rv3Jr: r GENEVA 20 ST. The cross country force grows larger each year as more emphasis is placed on their activities. The loyal members are thrilled this year since they even have specially printed, see- through shirts to wear to school! They really rival the foot- ball jocks. 64 65 VARSITY, row 2: Coach B. Shick. But you also have something right now. Something very special. Very precious. And very beauti- ful. Something we call innocence. Innocence has nothing to do with making love or not making love. It has to do with a way of looking at life. A way of seeing and experi- encing things that is completely fresh and new and undiluted. A blue sky looks bluer now, than it ever will again. Grass smells greener. A summer day seems longer. Ice cream tastes better. And music has more sound. Years from now, when you think about the most beautiful time of your life, you will think back to this time. You can know it now. Just believe it. Just see yourself in the same fresh way you see the rest of the world. Then you can begin to cele- brate your innocence. 89 90 91 — Pat Raliegh goes door-to-door for Dan Walker. John Smalley enjoys bicycling and good music. Dave Baker defines involvement in Tri-City Project. IP Sally Beckman serves church by accompanying on the piano. Orcus spends much time and money for good sounds. 92 Students experience world travel. Youth Mike Haas extended his water-skiing talent at Walt Disney World. Connie Donley takes in-depth training for a secretarial career. Happy are those who dream dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come true Gregg Lindquist prepares for racing. 93 Are you optimistic ’bout the way things are going? No, I never, ever think of it at all. Don’t you ever worry when you see what’s going down? No, I try to mind my business, that is no business at all. When it’s time to function as a feeling human being, will your Bachelor of Arts help you get by? I hope to study further, a few more years or so. I also hope to keep a steady high. Will you try to change things, use the power that you have, the power of a million new ideas? What is this power you speak of and the need for things to change? I always thought that everything was fine. Don’t you feel repression just closing in around? No, the campus here is very, very free. Don’t you ever see starvation in the city where you live, all the needless hunger, all the needless pain? I haven’t been there lately, the country is so fine, but my neighbors don’t seem hungry, ’cause they haven’t got the time. Don’t it make you angry the way war is dragging on? Well, I hope the President knows what he’s into, I don’t know. Thank you for the talk, you know, you really eased my mind. I was troubled by the shapes of things to come. Well, if you had my outlook your feelings would be numb, you’d always think that everything was fine. This year we welcome Klause Dierlick, Chiunh Sip Siewn, and John Jenson. We sent Jean Dickinson and Gordy Hinners abroad this summer.
