This was only the sec- ond time the Vikings won an undisputed title; they had shared the title three addi- tional times. Senior lettermen contributing to the success of the team were: Leigh Abts, Roger Billhardt, Brad Burgess, Dave Cox, Jim Johnson, Dave Kinst, Mike Manny, Brian McDonald, Greg Milewski, Bart Neri, Mike Novell, and Dave Simpson. Also displaying their football skills were juniors Gary Birch, Don Cash, Bob Currie, Gary Girard, Jeff Hanson, Steve Hill, Rick Kirby, Hal Miller, Dale Renner, and John Zinn. Even though Geneva was not consid- ered a pre-season favorite, the Sycamore upset of 46-32, breaking a Sycamore twenty-two game winning record, foreshad- owed the rest of the season. This was the first time in eighteen years that the Vikings had beaten the Spartans. The last game of the season forced a strong West Chicago team to be content with second place. Geneva claimed the first place title all to itself.
