SENIOR CLASS Gracing the halls of Gecohi in 1960, we started the year off by receiving, Sfter much unexpected difficulty, an honorable mention on our float. Sue Crane represented us as our attendant. As tradi- tion dictated, we won the annual magazine drive over the Class of ’63. Our sophomore year was 1.. J with excitement because we placed second in the Homecoming float competition and were represented by Susan Har- oldson on the Queen’s court. The junior year was full of hard work and enthusiasm. We again placed second in the Home- coming float competition with “Lettuce Win, Ya Hare!” The rest of the year was full of activity with state-wide exams, pre-college testing, Prom preparations, and the Junior Class Play “The Broom and the Groom.” As “sophisticated” seniors we led the school in many ways. Breaking the twelve year jinx. The Class of ’64 led the Vikings to a Homecoming victory and further to a second place standing in the confer- ence. King Mike McCleary and Queen Ellen Magill reigned over the Homecoming festivities, and Car- lene Johnson was our senior attendant. Even though we placed third in the float competition, we worked harder with a more united effort than ever before. Our senior year has been filled with activity and spirit and w'e have gained the added confidence necessary to help us reach our goals after graduation. 14 ARTURO ALFARO “We are going in the same direction so let’s go hand in hand.” Student Council 4, A.F.S. JUNIOR CLASS The one hundred fifty juniors found their first year as upperclass- men to be extremely busy, but all the mountains of work were scaled under the capable leadership of the class officers. During their freshman year, their Homecoming float placed third, and in their sophomore year they retained that position. This year they climbed a step to gain a well-deserved second place with their float, “They’ll Be in Dutch.” They were represented among the Queen’s court by Jackie Murdock. The juniors worked hard to pre- sent the Homecoming dance, “The Cellar,” which was considered a great success. Just a month later came the touchingly hilarious production of their Junior Class Play, “The Curious Savage.” In the spring, more work and enthusiasm was shown in the beautiful Prom they pre- sented for the seniors. By the time of the Junior-Senior Banquet everyone was confident that the juniors would be very capable lead- ers as seniors. 32 J. Accario S. Adams J. Anderson D. Armstrong B. Austin G. Backus B. The topic for de- bate this year has been “Medi- care.” All members have found Debate Club to be rewarding as well as fun and lots of hard work. 83 With a lot of hard work and more select performances, the 2nd annual Viking Review was successful, benefi- cial, and loads of fun. At the beginning of the school year they helped pass out the band uniforms to the freshmen in time for the football season. During the year they pass out and file the band music as needed. At the end of the year these two girls see to it that all band uniforms are brought back to the school for summer storage. 90 A. Wilson, L. Cameron, B. Odt, J. Hicks, L. Lencioni, C. Chamberlain, N. In the fall, at the beginning of the year, the band performs as a marching band for the home football games and also the homecoming parade. After the football season, the band begins jelling into a concert band, getting ready for the school Christmas assembly and the up-and-coming Tri-City Band Festival. Meanwhile, our pep band has been playing for all of the pep assemblies and home basketball games; the dance band practiced long hours for its many performances; and many hand students entered ensemble contest which was held in Geneva this year. This year, for the first time in several years, our band participated in the full band contest, which was also held in Geneva. At the end of the year was the Fox Valley Band Festival in which select students from about sixteen schools joined together to perform. The last appearance of the 1963-1964 high school band was in the Memorial Day Parade. From the number of varied activities, it is easy to see why each band member gains enjoyment as well as satisfac- tion. 91 PEP BAND FIRST ROW: K. Thomas, M. Wickwire, S. Motley, K. Pitz, J. Throughout the year, this group gave concerts at other schools and participated in the annual Pops Concert. Near the end of the school year, the entire chorus competed in contest. Also various groups and solos were able to show their ability to sing by taking part in the solo and ensemble contest which was held at a different date. Last, this singing group, joined choruses from sixteen other schools and put on what is known as the Fox Valley Music Festi- val. This year at the Little Seven Conference Tournament, Steve Mountsier, for the fresh-soph, and Bruce Harlodsod, for the varsity, both placed first. The fresh-soph team ended the season with 4 wins and 13 losses, while the varsity had a 5 and 12 record. London Bridge is falling down! Alley-Oop 115 Gecohi’s 1964 track team has once again dis- played a variety of skills and abilities among its members. Despite the many postponements at the beginning of the season, the team became extremely busy at the end of the year. In the Tri-City Track Meet, many Geneva boys set new records. We were very proud of Denny Wohrer who represented Geneva at the State Track Meet. The Viking track team elected Billie Cox as its queen, and she reigned at the Conference Meet on May 22. BASEBALL Baseball was a difficult sport to play in the days and days of rain we had this spring, but eventually the rain turned into beautiful days of spring weather and the Viking baseball team began to be seen playing many games at our own McKinley Park and at various schools in this area. Although the record is not as good as we would like it to be, the team gained valuable experience which will help them be a fine team again next year. Are you doing your exercises, Steve? Although we no longer pass through its halls or sit in its classrooms, the memories of past experiences will be unforgettable. One of these memories will be Mel John- son, teacher and coach. 120 FFFFFFFFFF Frrr
