After being big wheels in eighth grade, we felt rather lost as the lower—lower— classmen of Gecohi. We tried to redeem ourselves by winning the season ticket and magazine subscrip- tion drives. Although Delrose Carlson’s family suffered, we worked like trojans on our homecoming float. Just wait, we’ll do better than third place next year. Our hopes were big for stunt night, and we were out to win. We’ve worked hard getting acquainted with high school, but have had fun too. Here’s to three more years of work and play at Gecohi! J. Schoppe H. Serwat In the fall of 1952 Gecohi’s friendly halls once again took in a new batch of bewildered Freshies. Our first few weeks and months were trying ones but a quick look at the classmen above us made us realize that they had pulled through in a fair enough condition. Maybe we would too! June exams sauntered in ignoring our worried expressions and at long last those Gecohi halls spread out and gave us the liberty of breathing with confidence. Summer was all too short and again we invaded those halls but this time our echoes rang from one end to the other with a little more sureness and cockiness. Our float turned out surprisingly well and the other events we planned and took part in ran along smoothly and without the usually expected mishaps. June will step in again and quietly close the doors behind us but they’ll open wide in the September of 1954 and we’ll hear the halls of Gecohi greeting us, the upper- classmen. R. Adeney M. Zollers Two hustling years as “underclassmen” at Gecohi are now safely behind us and we find ourselves in that glorious category of Juniors and “upperclassmen!” We started off our high school career on the wrong foot by losing the annual magazine drive by only one dollar and we again lost in our Sophomore year. However, we bounced back and captured first honors with our Homecoming Float. Ths ear as Juniors, our biggest success and that which we take the most pride in has been our Prom and also the class play—where incidentally a lot of hidden talent was exposed—and the Junior Banquet. All of us have worked hard to make these various activities a credit to the class of ’55, not only this year but in our Freshman and Sophomore years when the grueling task of making money was accomplished. With a great deal of eagerness we face our Senior year, in the hopes that it will K. Achenbach B. Anderson D. Anderson N. Blumenstein R. Bowgren D. Bryant R. Carmack J. Cherry W. Clancy J. Crane L. In our Freshman year we won the magazine drive and captured first prize on stunt night with our “Boylesque Show.” As Sophomores, we again won the magazine drive and worked hard on our float although we failed to win a prize with it. Then came our busy Junior year with our prom, “Stardust,” and the Junior-Senior Banquet, both of which were great successes. And of course, no one will forget our Junior play, “Annie Get Your Gun.” It was a smashing hit even though the guns wouldn’t go off. Last and most important was our year as Seniors. To start the year right, we won second place with our homecoming float, “Dig Their Crazy Graves.” Then we gave our Senior play, “Ah! Men!” It, too, was a tremendous hit. Towards the end of the year, we could be found busily preparing for commencement. That brings us to the present and as the door of graduation swings slowly open we Keith Alcozin “Do not turn back just when you’re at the goal” Carol Anderson “What you do still betters what is done” James Anderson “Never say more than is neces- sary” Dann Andrews “My mind is gay—but my soul is melancholy” Ronald Arbizzani “As good natured a soul as e’er trod on a shoe of leather” Julia Backey “I’m beginning to live a little and feel less like a sick oyster at low tide William Barrows “Ah love, let us be true to one another” Richard Bartelt ‘7 have laid aside business and gone a-fishing” Charles Bartholomew “Patience, and shuffle the cards again” Robert Bercquist “The only good Indians I ever saw were dead Roberta Bergquist “The busy bee has no time for sorrow Frances Burisch “It is a friendly heart that has plenty of friends” Joan Cherry “I’m not arguing with you— I’m telling you. Robert Clark “I call a fig a fig, a spade a spade. Patricia Conner “Ah, you flavor everything, you are the vanilla of society. Penelope Crull “I never like to be hit without striking back.” Frances Dahlin “You may as well expect pears from an elm.” Edward Devleshower “I know what's what! Barton Eberman ‘7 the world be gulled, let it be gulled. Russell Foreman “0 good natured parts and of a liberal education Judy Johncock “I’ve had my fun where I found it.’ Dorothy Johnson “To a shower of gold most things are penetrable. Lorretta Kopenca “What can't be cured must be endured. Patricia Lindo “Be silent and safe—silence never betrays you.” 4 i Marcia Love “Can one desire too much of a good thing?” Connie Miller “Help thyself and Cod will help thee. Keith Moline “I was no gentleman bom.” Mary Ann Moore “Do your duty and leave the rest for heaven.” Erl Runge “The world knows nothing of his greatest men.” Marilyn Sandberg 'She does little kindnesses which most leave undone.” Jerald Schroyer “He that has patience may compass anything. Joan Skogland “Studious to please, yet not ashamed to fail. Bruce Springborn “I meditate on interstellar spaces, and smoke a mild seegar. David Stephens “I assert that nothing ever comes to pass without a cause. Sallie Stuebinger “Where there’s music there can be no harm. Margrit Swanson “A time to keep silence, and a time to speak.” Penelope Wachs “It is impossible to please all the world and one’s father. Edward Woodmansee “What I cannot see, will never believe in—” Judy Youngren “We live not as we wish, but as we can.” Senior Directory ALGOZIN, KEITH—Basketball: Football 1-4; Baseball; “G” Club 2. 3, 4: From Committee. Student Council The student council had an active year under the able direction of Bob MacNeille, President; Ron Arbizzani, Vice President; and Mary Wilson, Secretary. They spon- sored the Homecoming Dance and combined their efforts with Batavia and St. Charles councils to stage the successful Tri-City Sweetheart Dance. Among their other ac- complishments was the upkeep and control of the student parking lot. The last major project of the year was the forming, in co-operation with the coun- cils of all Big Eight and Little Seven conference schools, of a code of ethics for sportsmanship at games.
