Class Hustor IX years ago, on a warm September day, a group of curuous seventh graders entered the halls of G H S eager to pass through the years ahead wuth as luttle work and study as possuble, and eventually to gaun the funal reward of beung bug senuors We duscovered that thus goal was not easy to attaun and ut was necessary to devote more tume to studues and less to muschuef Durung our freshmen year we entered untocompetutuon wuth the upper classes, and for the furst tume chose our own sublects The maun prolect of the class that year was sellung greetung cards As sophomores, the enture class was together un one room for the furst tume Under the leadershup of Bob Mc Guure presudent, Eugene Eller, vuce presudent Januce Dean secretary, and Gary Cruttenden, treasurer, our class sponsored a donkey basketball game whuch developed unto a hularuous affaur wuth over sux hundred fullung the gym to capacuty Our second sale of greetung cards proved to be very profutable and a popcorn machune was purchased wuth the earnungs Returnung as lunuors we elected Preston Pollock presudent, Frank Castellu, vuce presudent Margue Patterson secretary, and Gary Cruttenden, treasurer, and promptly chose our class rungs The lunuor play Strange Boarders, unearthed great talent among members of the class The maun events of the year were the Junuor Senuor Prom held at the Maduson Country Club and the banquet whuch was a success due mostly to our wonderful mothers who served a very delucuous meal and were responsuble for all the detauls Senuorsl Long had we wanted for the day when we could look back over three happy years and realuze that we had qualufued for our funal year at G H S The offucers elected for the year were Ray Bender, presudent Frank Castellu, vuce presudent Morgue Patterson, secretary and Don Duglua, treasurer, wuth Mrs Ward and Mr Sherman as sponsors After our puctures had been taken and the announcements ordered, plans were made to rause money for the Aquula by sponsorung several dances after the games and sellung magazunes We operated the concessuon stand at the football games and our ever fauthful popcorn machune remauns ot the school as o guft from the senuor class Early un May our senuor play was produced and met wuth great success May rolled around whule most of us were stull un a whurl of actuvutues Thus year we were the honored guests at the Junuor Senuor Prom and the banquet whuch were very enuoyable events At last come Baccalaureate and Commencement Some were happy to graduate, whule others regretted that they were to leave G H S We all realuzed we had to go but through musty eyes whule we sang our beloved Alma Mater, our thoughts wandered back to what us lust hustory to most, but to the senuors has a value that cannot be weughed Some of us thought of the wonderful guudance and learnung from our teachers some, the fun we had but regardless of what we thought, ut us what G H S has guven us that enables us to face the world as young adults wuth determunatuon and courage It us the hope of the Class of T952 that we have contrubuted somethung whuch wull be of assustance to those who wull follow, and that we may repay those who have guuded and counseled us o S ' ..- F ' ' 1 f ' P ' ' 1 f . success and Joanne would soon be up and well agann Frank took down nnformatnon for another story as she dnsclosed to hnm that Lelna Myers, one of thenr very effncnent nurses had slnpped on a rug Mary Lou had ordered for the hospntal lounge Mnss Myers had knocked out a tooth and as a result was sunng the manufacturer for damages Frank had asked to see her and Mnss Jeppe dnrected hnm to one of the offnces,where Mnss Myers sat nntently lnstenung to the radno What are you lnstennng to? he asked Oh she declared Emma Jones who ns snngnng and also playung the guntar ns competnng agannst Ellen Westlake snngnng at the pnano,on a cross country talent program The wnnner wnll get a years contract to appear as guest star every week Suddenly the door opened and nurse Mary Jean Hagler stepped nn to hand her a gnft and to say that her snster Rose and frnend Audrey Rhoads had taken a short tnme off thenr secretary receptnonnst posntnons nn Manhatten to come to see her Mnss Myers offered part of her gnft to Frank whnch turned out to be delncnous apples from Jannce Dean who had sent the order from New York where she was a well known publnc welfare worker to her father s farm Frank was preparnng to leave when Mnss Myers asked hnm to remann and see the state contestors for the Mnss Amernca Beauty Contest on televnsnon That s Irene Wntlnckn representnng Mnss Ohnol exclanmed Frank It certannly ns sand Lelna A lnttle later he left and was walknng along the avenue headed for the offnce when he decnded to stop nn the drug store for a copy of the latest paper It was hns no ful surprnse to see Roger Commnsso behnnd the counter Thns natur ally was lust one of Roger s chann of stores aroun the cnty Would you lnke to buy some scrumptnous candy he sand a specnal blend of chocolate manufactured by Larry Hattery Hns candy ns sold all over the Unnted States now Later wnth a box of chocolates under hns arm he was about to walk out the door when he bumped nnto of all people Eugene Eller Eugene explanned that he was on hns way to New York Cnty to an agrncultural conventnon where he ns chanrman of a commnttee on plant entomology He had heard that many of hns old frnends were here and had decnded to stop on hns way to New York to look them up Meanwhnle John had been sent out of town to a desert area nn Nevada to report certann nnterferences wnth the radno actnvnty of the energy statnon Back agann that nnght he told our reporters that Nancy Peterson was chnef of a commnssnon succeednng nn harnessnng the atomnc powers for use nn publnc utnlntnes and communncatnons That afternoon whnle wantnng nn the statnon for the plane back to the cnty he had notnced huge posters urgnng vacatnoners to vnsnt Lomas Lakeland on Beautnful Lake Erne Further nnqunry revealed defnnately that Nancy Lomas was the successful manager of thns resort All together agann they set out for dnnner at the hotel and who should recenve them when they entered but Enleen DeGeorge the charmnng hostess She led them to the mann Lobby where Jnm Cook was dnscussnng a detanl wnth the desk clerk They learned to thenr amazement that Jnm was the owner of thns establnshment and took specnal prnde In hns prnvate dnnnng room He led them near the floor show where Albert Pulsnfer another former hngh school frnend who had succeeded Arthur Murray nn becomnng a natnonally known dance studno teacher appeared There are some people I d lnke you to meet tonnght Jnm sand dnrectnng them to a table occupned by a dnstnn gunshed looknng couple and a pretty young gnrl Thns as absolutely mnraculous' the reporters sand delnghtedly astonnshed to recognnze thenr former home room dnrector at Geneva Hngh School wn th Mrs Sherman and daughter Deborahl We are passnng through thns cnty on our trnp east and decnded to stop and renew old acquanntances wnth our former students they sand Jnm whnspered to John that he was havurng a surprnse party for the Shermans after the program and nnvnted them all to come Thenr attentnon was suddenly dnverted by a famnlnar looknng woman weavung nn and out among the patrons super vnsnng the handlnng of all the hor deuvres that were served They dnscovered nt was none other than Nancy Stnffleg who had become qunte a noted cateress,servnng anythnng from Congressnonal dnnners to Hollywood celebrnty luncheons She sand that she owed much of her success that nnght to Irene Catano who as chnef cook possessed a very famous secret recnpe for maknng these refreshments Also she had two assnstants helpnng her Mary Tellep and Pat Sterret home economnsts who had prevnously been food edntors for the Ladnes Home Journal Thenr prolect that evennng was to serve a dnnner for a conventnon benng held nn honor of the guest speakers Margaret Patterson a well known publnc welfare agent and a possnble candndate for senate: cgf Ohno, and Peggy Moss a chnld psycholognst who was speaknng nn behalf of a charnty benefnt program for home less c head wanter and told to return nmmednate ly back to the newspaper offnce At the mann desk the new receptnonnst Vnctorna Gawlnkowskn reported that the edutor had another nmportant lead on a story wantnng for them They headed for the offnce where once nnsnde the chnef told them they were to fly to Alaska to learn whether Barbara Gleason had vnsnted Barbara Ott who owned a whnte fox farm there You see, he sand Mnss Gleason has nnhernted twenty mnllnon dollars from a mysternous old lady whom she had once befrnended If she does not clanm the money wnthnn two weeks nt ns to go to Beverly Bender, secretar for the Geneva Savnngs and Loan nn that cnty She had once stated personally to thns benefactfess that she woul lnke to take a trnp around the world Furthermore he went on two commercnal buyers for a famous cosmetncs fnrm nn Calnfornna Mnss Marnlyn Hart and Ruth Ann Bentel had seen Barbara purchasnng a tncket to Alaska and have telegraphed to notnfy us of the nncndent Off agann on another lourney thns tnme of course to Alaska we fnnd our reporters once more hunched nn chanrs at the statnon,wantnng for the next passenger net to speed them to thenr excntnng new
