THE 1937 JUNIOR-SENIGR PROM We walked from clear moonlight into a dreamland, a land where all the melo- dies we have dreamed of danced before our eyes. Swing Time had come to life in Geneva High School. Our blood quickened as we advanced into the room. Dancing notes in black and silver greeted us with twinkles from the ceiling. The walls waved to us in measures from modern dance tunes and the musical men grinned and exhibited staff suits. While we accustomed our eyes to the dreamy light, we heard light notes, our feet stepped in time, and we turned to see a large drum serving as a bandstand with the orchestra performing in true swing time. Music, music, music, Swing Time comes to life and the 1937 Junior-Senior Prom was on! An evening of gayety and rhythm and Juniors' voices speaking of black paint, silver paint, scissors and rulers. Their hours of labor were well rewarded by the spectacle the gymnasium presented. Will Morgan Martin and Raymond King ever forget their work with ruler and pencil in marking those musical scores? Will any of a score of others forget quickly the Work with pencil, paper, scissors, and paint in the upper balcony, where silence was golden because of the Senior play practice? Will anyone forget the hours with needle and thread and ladder as the entire crew Went to work to create the atmosphere. Hammers pounding, voices shrilling, and slowly the gymnasium was gone! Swing Time was in! Gay voices, dresses in rainbow hues, white coats, dark coats, swingsters all, as the Prom Went swinging along. Gay serpentine is writhing over our heads, torn serpentine beneath rhythm filled feet, the band swinging along in time to the racing blood of youth about it, and the dance went into an overtime period. Swing, swing, rhythm beats on, tired feet turn homeward still swinging. Cars gay with balloons and serpentines catch the spirit of their passengers. The dancing notes move but gently now and Swing Time swings into the annals of our minds, a never to be forgotten evening.
