GECORALA Geneva County High School Hartford, Alabama Volume 46 This is a 1982 book of dreams. Dreams which are realities in our hearts. Goals are set to be reached to better our school, as well as our self intellect. With determination, effort, pride, and discipline these dreams shall become realities. When these goals are triumphed, our dreams will be as magic moments — memories which will be' so precious and priceless, and will never be forgotten. For we will have achieved and made our dreams realities, and we will continue to strive for the best. As these children begin their climb up the ladder of twelve years in the education process, they dream of things like recess, coloring, naptime, and other fun elementary school activities. Little do they know, or care, that they will learn and experience the most important things that will carry them through their entire lives . . . 4 And they will continue to dream about their high school years and graduation until this dream becomes a reality. These dreams will then become new dreams dreaming of the world that awaits to swallow them into its mass network of struggle. confusion, and success. 5 It has taken twelve years in the making As we now approach the top. In this adventure there have been problems. But never have we considered to stop. Through hard times and bad times We have always kept our dreams; For so long we have followed. But now we do lead. 4 7 GIVE ME THE NIGHT Monday Night, April 27, 1981 Outrageously fantastic! Monday night. April 27. 1981. Wait a second .. Monday night for a Prom?lll Yes. you heard it right. There was skepticism as to the outcome of the Junior-Senior Prom 1981. to be held at the Fort Rucker Lake Lodge. You're having your Prom on Monday night? How dumb.” was the reaction of many friends or relatives. After months of planning and anticipation. Juniors packed Prom Stuff into vehicles and headed to the Lake Lodge that morning. Energetic, lively, vivacious . . the spirit was always there every Friday during sixth period. Pep rallies were held in the auditorium most of the time, but sometimes occurred outside or anywhere there was spirit. Encouraging pep talks were given by inspiring faculty members, zealous students, and the eager varsity football players. Reviving routines and skits were presented by spunky cheerleaders and majorettes. Fans cheered for the Bulldogs as the band performed. Each student body grade competed to see which could yell the loudest, but in the end everyone united to support the Bulldogs during these enthusiastic events. During the spring, the SAFE Club undertook the task of refurbishing our school mascot. The Mighty Bulldog was re-painted, shrubs were planted, and chains erected to protect our Dog from culprits who might want to take him home with them. Sirens really make a football game exciting! The new scoreboard, completely modernized with these devises, signals the end of each quarter. A new fieldhouse. furnished with showers and bathrooms, is a great convenience in comparison to the dilapidated building that has been replaced. Vocational carpentry and masonry students, coaches, students, supporters of GCHS. and even the principal pitched in to help erect the new structure. £ r VARSITY BULLDOGS ■lead Coach — Mark Ford, Asst. The band spent two long, hard weeks practicing for its first performance at the Daleville game. The band knew, even at the beginning, that there was potential for a superior band, but knew also that much work was required to achieve all of their goals. Later in the year, the band attended two marching contests. The first contest was the Enterprise Marching Contest on October 31. The band received a Two which is an excellent rating. Also receiving an excellent rating were the Majorettes. The Drum Majorette and Color Guard both received a One” which is a superior rating. Then came the Troy Marching Contest where the entire band received their recognition. The band. Majorettes. Color Guard, and Drum Majorette all received superior ratings. The band was honored again by being awarded the Best In Class. This was the first time in ten years that the band had received such high ratings. The band played songs such as Sting of the Serpent. Linus and Lucy.” ,Birdlandand Softly as I Leave You. Working hard every week, they had a never-quit attitude. The band proved that hard work eventually pays off. GCHS Marching Bulldog Band in action! The season got into full swing as the Bulldogs traveled to the Dothan Civic Center and captured the First Annual Dothan Progress Christmas Tournament. The following week the Bulldogs defeated Geneva to win the Geneva Christmas Tournament. To add to their record the Bulldogs captured the Wiregrass Athletic Conference Tournament making this their third tournament in four weeks time. This team proved their skill by being the first team ever to capture the WAC title. GOOD CITIZEN LINDA SIMPKINS Each year the Daughters of the American Revolution Organization sponsors the selection of a Citizen from each high school. The school is notified of the procedures of acceptance. The Senior Class members nominate three candidates with criteria based on scholarship, leadership, patriotism, and service to their community. The three nominees were Stacey Brackin. Pam Bradshaw, and Linda Simpkins. Faculty members then voted and selected Linda Simpkins. Linda accepted recognition for this honor by receiving a certificate, a D.A.R. tack pin. and eligibility for a scholarship. Linda's capabilities enable her to work well with faculty members as well as students. As editor of the Ge-Co-Bugle. Linda has become more informed and involved with the happenings around GCHS. 64 ABOVE: Boy's State Representatives — George Reagan and Paul Fondren. With lipstick, eyeshadow, and rouge flowing freely, the beasts were transformed into beauties. As the lights were dimmed. Mr. Willie Brown introduced and flirted with each of the beauties. The contestants paraded in sportswear and evening wear. After much deliberation. the judges selected the five finalists. Attired in tight black pants and sexy black sweater. Edgar Dawson was chosen as fourth runner-up. It is said that Edgar's flowing black curls and cute smile were two reasons why he was selected for this honor. Third runner-up was given to one of the quieter males of the Senior Class. It has not been determined whether it was the hot pants or the mint green dress that clinched this position for Ricky Sammons, but in either outfit, he was a sure bet for a finalist spot. Rodney Price captured second runner-up with his poise, complexion. and prissy walk. Rodney looked absolutely adorable in his pink and white evening gown. Rodney's angelic ways played a big role in his getting second runner-up, but what may have played an even bigger role was the way he winked at the judges. The honor of being selected as first runner-up was bestowed upon Jerry Pridgen. Jerry was just gorgeous as he floated across the stage in his white evening gown. The spaghetti straps left Jerry's muscular, tanned arms showing. Alabama Power Company was responsible for Jerry's coiffure prior to the contest. The crown of Second Annual Miss Womanless Beauty was laid upon the head of contestant number eight. In his hot-pink evening gown. Chuck Darrow caught everyone's eye. Chuck won the contest because of his charm, his short, neat hairdo, and his dangling earrings. The Senior Class sponsored the contest. Other contestants were: John Anderson. Tim Bottoms. Mr. Dean has had the satisfaction of seeing thirteen of this students become American Farmers. Admired and respected by students, faculty, and friends. Paul Dean will be missed at GCHS. but best wishes go from all of us as he begins his retirement, a new dream that includes time for resting, fishing, and more time with his hogs. 166 As this Book of Dreams comes to an end, a long and beautiful dream of twelve years has also ended, yet a more challenging and fulfilling dream has just begun That Dream Is Life . . . 168
