8:00 a.m., August 25, 1978. The beginning of just another day. Well, not really. For the students of GCHS it was the beginning of school. As everyone in high school found their homeroom and renewed friendships and the mothers of the elementary school children left them to their new teachers, a certain excitement filled the air. Teachers once again distributed forms, forms, and more forms to complete or take home. Assemblies were held for Mr. Jenkins to welcome us back and to introduce new teachers who were just finding out how hectic school could be. With the new combinations locks on the lockers, a few students were tardy for the first class of the day, but by the end of the day most had conquered the problem. As recess passed by and second, third, and fourth periods were finished, most students were back in the swing of things. Lunch finally arrived and seventh graders discovered high school food was no different from elementary school food. The day progressed. FINALLY 2:50 p.m. arrived. No, it was not the ending of just another day, but the ending of the first day of school. Third grader's parents help them find their room. In high school, students learn what happened during the summer. 10

(( “This One's For You was presented at 8:00 p.m. on the night of April 13, 1978. Held at Lake Lodge, Ft. Rucker, Alabama, the prom was one of the most spectacular events of the year. The lodge was decorated with blue and white tissue balls, silver and blue rotating columns, and a glass mirror ball that was the focal point. Mark Fondren, Junior class president, gave the welcome and Senior class president, Cindy Ward responded. Programs and glasses were presented to the Juniors and Seniors by the Junior class officers. After the presentation of gifts to the Junior class sponsors, the dance floor and refreshment tables were opened. The Ivy Brothers provided the music. As the evening came to a close, most felt it was the end of a perfect day. Juniors spent the day at Lake Lodge decorating for the Prom. Hank Birdsong is hanging stars from the ceiling. 12
