The assembly started a week long drive for sales. To begin the assembly, Mr. Robin Rainer, the representative for Jos-ten's American Yearbook Company, showed a film. Then the Journalism class took over. A skit from Saturday Night Live and then a street interview ended the assembly. Doreen Freer was the name drawn for the free I'm Impressed tee-shirt. This was the first year this has been done. Sales for the next day were high, due partially to the assembly. Right: The Journalism Class in theii I'm Impressed tee-shirts. You'll be impressed! During one of its meetings, the QB Club reviewed this for a project. They then appointed a steering committee made up of school, town, and QB Club members. The town supplied $40,000 for the field, sprinkling system, lights, and bleachers. The first of February saw the destruction of the old bleachers. In May the field was planted and in late July, the seats and lights were installed. The sparkling new stadium will seat 1,400 Bulldog fans. The Quarterback Club is now anticipating its next project: putting in a dressing room and new seats on the visitor's side. 14 SOU IP’S Lunch seems to be everyone's favorite subject. Each day the lunchroom ladies battle against time to give students a hot lunch. The women who work so diligently at the high school are: Geraldine Brown, Jessie Dorriety, Edith Smith, Melba Sizemore, Leona Enfinger, and Mella En-finger. Hard at work at the elementary school are: Margie Crawford, Della Ree, Eula Bradley, Gertrude Butler, and Mary Helms. Thanks are extended to these fine women. Sylvia Hilliard was chosen first runner-up with Darlene Hilliard second runner-up. Robin then went to the county-wide Miss Bronze contest where she was picked as first runner-up. 25 HOMECOMING '77 Many think of Homecoming as only a Friday night. At G.C.H.S. the whole week is special. Bulldogs are King day, Fifty's day, Purple and Gold day, and the parade on Friday are all treats during Homecoming week. This year on Thursday night before the game, there was a pep rally behind the gym. This livened up the students and made Friday just a bit more special. 26 The parade on Friday started at the elementary school, went through town and ended at the square with a pep rally. 27 Marcia Atwell sponsored by Freddie Strickland Susan Loftin sponsored by Danny Bailey Tonja Wesson sponsored by Mike Kor negay Tammy Roberts escorted by Rob Byrd Sheila )udah escorted by Lee McArdle Amy Fondren escorted by David Alber son The Homecoming Court 1977-G.C.H.S. Helping him in his time-consuming job is Mr. Hiram Phillips, assistant principal. In the office, Mrs. Martha Crawford is usually busy typing, filing, or doing a host of other jobs as secretary. Mrs. Sarah Black, guidance counselor, helps students with their schedules and planning their future. Assistant principals are Mr. Mike Whitaker and Mrs. Jackie Chancy. This year a new Home Ec teacher, Mrs. Geretha Ingebrigten, was added to the department. Home Ec and Ag are two of the busiest classes in school. One of the projects for the Home Ec department was a pretend marriage. The Agriculture classes spend many long hours learning sawing, drilling, and other similar activities. Far right: Miss Frankie Ammons, Home Ec Right: Vanessa Jordan and Ray Scon-iers in their pretend wedding. Below: Mrs. Geretha Ingebrigten and students, Grace Freer and Peggy Fox 36 Library Serving as a resource center, the library is essential in furth-uring a student's education. Coordinating thinking with the quick action of the hands are stressed. For the college-bound student, typing and short-hand are extremely helpful. In the business field, the value of the class can not be estimated. These courses are a valuable asset in efficiency. Left: Mrs. Karen Peters. 39 G.C.H.S. Band The pride of the G.C.H.S. Band is no laughing matter. Two weeks before school started, and every day after school, the band has been learning drills. In the rain, hot sun, or freezing cold, the band still goes on. Only the strong and determined last through the football season. The band marched at every football game, many parades, and participated in three marching contests. Consisting of approximately 80 members, the Bulldog Band is under the field direction of Janet Peacock. Janet attended camp this summer at Auburn where she won first place in competition. The majorettes and Flag Corp, with Flag Captain, Tina Messick, also attended camp. For the past three years. Mr. Mike Kelly has directed the band.
