Freshly furnished, the student council room, now located in the administration lwuilding, looks inviting and lwusiness-like. ln its new setting, the room hears a striking resemhlance to that ol the executive chain hers ol' a husiness corporation. The Student Council, as a hody representative ol student choice, lorniulates rules concerning student cond uct, social functions of the standing committees, scholarship standards lor ollice-holding in all student organizations, and the formation ol new cluhs. Acting as our representatives, the memhers of the council determine the importance ol varied school prohlems, and those which most directly pertain to the student lwody as a whole are sulwmitted to the Student Cooperative Government lor discussion and decision. Grievances which have heen placed in the lwox set aside lor that purpose are discussed in council meetings and then hrought lweliore Student Government lor open discussion. STUDENT GOVERNMENT OFFICERS AND ADVISERS Time does not lag at Student Government meetings. From the moment the pound of the presidents gavel calls the excited throng to order until the sound of the bell, which means that only a few moments are left, the scene is one of expectation. Problems that are closely connected with the lives of the students are discussed at these fortnightly meetings. Controversy is waged fiercely to be followed by compromises usually agreeable to most concerned. Plans are made for activities, dances, and week-end fun. The meetings show a cross-section ofthe students' opinion and are a true indication of the consensus of the school's opinion. Much careful attention is given to the selection of the officers. These officers represent the entire student body and are chosen by the students for the honor and dignity of their oflice. Campaign and election time are most exciting in Geneseo. Posters, speeches, and parades are but a prelude to election day when the school as a whole delivers the final verdict. The minutes tick off rapidly, too rapidly. Snliflv. The job of being house president, especially of a large house, is not an easy one. If you don't believe it, try it sometime. The House Presidents Federation is an organ- ization composed of the presidents of all the houses. They meet every two weeks to discuss mutual problems and to try to settle these problems. The federation makes plans for better lighting, heating, and room arrangement in the respective houses. The house presidents themselves are go-betweensu for the administration and the heads of the rooming houses. The organization elects oflicers in the beginning of the school year who stay in olliee until june. The main activities which the federation sponsors are open house and the entertainment of the house mothers. Open house was especially successful this year. ln some houses faculty members were entertained at formal dinners and l Q l 'nin in socitl living fuided as it is Ea afterward shown around the iouses. euci trai g 5 z g, by the organization, has resulted in so many adjustments through cooperation that the girls have been enabled to live together more comfortably and happily.
