ME ORY TIME ITH June commg up we the Semor Class recall brlefly our h1gh school llves 1n General Martln School We can stlll remember when Marxe Gernard plastered Eugene Gaylord s face wzth llpstick ln our Freshman year and we d1st1nctly remember Mlss Trafton saymg Park your gum! ' Dorls Bush ended up wlth xt parked on the end of her nose In our Sophomore year we were so mad at Tom Lengyel for savmg the school when a small flre broke out ln our Engllsh Class fa short ln the ventllatorl We can stxll hear MISS Elsaser runmng down the hall yelllng 'F1rel ' One of our fondest memor1es of thls same year IS Mlss Slusarcyzk who trled to teach us Elnstem s Theory We were pretty stupld where that was con cerned but even so that was the only year we all passed soclal studles The Pat Howell vs Barbara Zxmmer feud was gomg strong about that tlme Turm sure got raked over That year we had the sclence room as our homeroom so remember Mr Plckermg s supposedly art1f1c1al flnger and hls false teeth Janet Farr brought her pet mouse to school Poor thxngl He fmallv got squashed ln the a1r pump We had n1ne snakes 1n our room lln the old aquarium, all at one tlme Barbara Bush purposely stayed out of school so she wouldn t have to dlsect a frog m b1ol ogy class We also went to see the Freedom Tra1n and stood 1n the ra1n most of the day In our Jumor year most of our memorles centered around the chemlstry classes, where Pat Howell scared the l1fe out of us by pourmg carbon dlsulphlde on a Bunsen burner One day she almost blew up the school KDarnl ll when she declded to make some mtro glycerme Dav1d had to egg her on of course We can stlll see Mr Hurd trymg to help us m a last mlnute chemlstry regents revlew class wh1le Barbara Bush chased moth mlllers m the back of the room and Barbara Zlmmer trled to get away from them Those of us who were not afrald laughed untll Mr Hurd gave up and called lt a nlght In our Semor year Bob Boshart got h1s car stuck ln a snow bank the day when a few Semors went out to get ads for the Year Book Iwe ended up 1n Utlcal Bob bravely led Pudge Joan and Barb Bush across the street wh1le he made lzke a traff1c cop By gosh, lt worked! l A few mlscellaneous memorles are Mxss Pearce throwmg a compass at Agneta Emerson Barbara Bush gettlng so mad she crled 1n study hall and the boys 1n thelr blg wlute aprons wash mg dlshes at our spaghettl supper These are Just a few of the memorles that we cherlsh as we graduate from G M C S and w1ll ca.rry Wlfh us along l1fe s Journey df I -1 ' C x A, Z. emors 15 ,941 1 ' 'ber for 95 eff Q? HI TORY E entered our Freshman year xn September 1946 knowlng very l1ttle of what was expected of us We had 31 members and Mr P1Ck6I'1I1g was chosen as our Class Advxsor Our class officers were Presldent Eugene Gaylord Vlce Presldent Marguerlte Sweeney Secre tary Dorls Bush Treasurer Barbara Bush Our flrst act1v1ty was a dance held on May 31 We also served refreshments at the .Tumor dance Durmg the year three of our members left us They were Barbara Moulton Burton Renme and Mar1e Moore We were proud to have flve of our classmates on the Junlor Varslty basketball team They were Eugene Gaylord Everett Burdlck Robert Studer Thomas Lengyel and Peter Hawk One glrl Dorls Bush was on the cheerleadmg squad Robert Boshart and Janet Farr Jomed us that year We entered our Sophomore year feelmg a llttle more advanced and closer to graduatmg We had 28 members and Mr P1cker1ng was agaln chosen Class Advlsor We elected offlcers as follows Presldent, Peter Shumway Vlce Presldent Marguerlte Sweeney Secretary Dor1s Bush Treasurer Barbara Zlmmer Later Marne Gernard became Treasurer after Barbara reslgned We had dances on November 7 and May 12 both of wh1ch were successful Two of our class members Davld Rhone and Peter Shumway played basketball Marguerlte Sweeney Martha Saunders and Carol Hunzlker were cheerleaders Durmg th1s school year Carol Hunzlker Shlrley Weber Jean Bunn Thomas Orendorff and Gladys Emerson left us Barbara Zlmmer Pat Howell Carol Hunzmker and Jean Bunn had Jomed us that year September 1948 we entered our Junlor year st1ll more advanced We had 17 members m the class Mrs Freeman was chosen our Class Advlsor We elected offlcers as follows Presl dent Barbara Bush V1ce Presldent Robert Boshart Secretary, Marguerlte Sweeney Treasur er Helen Gydesen Our Harvest dance on October 1 wlth muslc by the Stardusters and the barn dance on October 8 wlth muslc by John Jaskl s Orchestra from Rome were both successful W sold Chrlstmas cards raffled off an electr1c mlxer sponsored a spaghettl supper on March 10 and had another dance on March 25 to lncrease our funds We were proud to have two members on the basketball team Robert Boshart and Thomas Lengyel Joan Howley and Marguerlte Sweeney were cheerleaders Marie Gernard Jomed us ln January and Edward Norton Jomed us ln June We ordered our long wanted rlngs 1n February Thls September the long walted tlme to say We re Semors, ' came We had 18 members M1ss Elsaser was chosen Class Advlsor We elected class offxcers as follows Presldent Edward Norton V106 Presxdent, Marguerlte Sweeney Secretary Dorxs Bush Treasurer, Helen Gydesen We sold magazxnes candy, and had a bake sale to ralse money Joseph Matula and Jack Casey both left us ln October, leavmg us w1th only 16 members Johnny Szalach became a P G and came 1nto our class We had a September dance Wh1Ch was the fu'st school dance of the year We also had a barn dance We raffled off a watch 1n the Fall Now our hlgh school days are nearly over Th1s hxgh school hlstory marks only the begmnmg of a greater hlstory ln l1fe wh1ch we each hope we may achleve eYe ot on p1'fw 14 . : ' 9 .
