Can it be the atmosphere which surrounds me? Or is it the mere fact that everyone tends to think as I do? You try to think back, but for some queer reason Your mind fades into oblivion And you cannot draw a conclusion about where your lifetime has gone. Is that Cod’s way of telling you to forget the past and look toward a fulfilling future? Or is it that your past is filled with many grievances, forcing to make it unmemorable? Confusion sets in... You try hard to draw conclusions to these questions, but the answers are not within the realm of life. Maybe they're in a far-off galaxy looking for their own being. .. But maybe not! Levittown elementary schools, awards assemblies, and the Five Towns College Jazz Festival. Clubs 161 This year, many people could be seen walking down the halls proudly displaying their MacArthur Chorus jackets. It is because of this enthusiasm that the vocal ensemble was perhaps the best in years. The group was directed by Miss Agnes Golab and aided by student teacher Mrs. Robin Schoenwald. Some of the selections performed by the group were Hannukkah Song, Sing We Enchanted. and Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor. fT) T fT EXBSVRJk The MacArthur High School Orchestra prepared all year for its winter and spring concerts. At the winter performance, Marche Militaire by Franz Schubert and Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony were played. Although a tiny team, they're tops in tempo and tone, according to the orchestra director, Mr. Goldberg. 162-Clubs Clubs 163 This group, under the direction of Miss Agnes Goiab, has increased enormously in size. In class, monologues, comedy skits, musical skits, and dance numbers are worked on. while the best of these are performed at the annual variety show and the winter and spring concerts. The goal of the Computer Clubs in MacArthur is to bring people in touch with the future. Terms such as word processing, telecommunications, and the Macintosh system were approached by the computer club, while the Commodore 64 club focused in on things having to do specifically with the computer itself. Commodore Club President — Georg Ebinger Vice President — Mike Laiserin Computer Club President — Scott Cohen Vice President — Harry Birnbaum 164 «Clubs After school, while some people are playing sports, watching General Hospital, or listening to music — the Big Mac Iron Men are “pumping iron in the weight room. Mr. Allen Advises this club which meets three times each week. Clubs • 165 Mathletes is a group of students who participate in problem solving competitions. County meets are held once a month. At these meets, six problems are distributed to the students who have a predetermined amount of time to solve them. In addition to these meets, the team also participates in monthly Mew York State meets, in which all members have the chance to excel. 166 Clubs WGDM is the club that brought us the annoucements on the mornings when the PA was working. Doing the announcements helps increase the self-confidence of the members, and allows them to improve their speaking ability. The backbone of every MacArthur production is the stage crew. Along with the sound technicians, the stage crew put in weeks of preparation for the play and the musical, and also helped in other special events, setting up scenery, lighting, and sound. The R.O.T.C. allows students from MacArthur to learn about the workings of the (J.S. military forces — in particular the AIR FORCE. Students involved in this year's R.O.T.C. include Scott Lambert and Georg Ebinger. MOOK TOIA Iji SJ “J ™j “J Si The mock trial at MacArthur is composed of group of students interested in learning about the (J.S. judicial system. At mock trial meetings students meet with advisor Mr. Gatland and a lawyer. Mr. D’Angelis to learn proper courtroom procedures. Mac Mock Trial competed with various other schools in competition sponsored by the N.Y. Bar Association. Clubs 167 Students Against Driving Drunk is an organization that is concerned with and tries to prevent drunk driving — a problem which is responsible for millions of deaths each year. Hopefully, in the next few years S.A.D.D. and other similar groups will be able to alleviate the many problems related to drunk driving. friends DON'T L£7 RIENDS j The Driver Education program continued to be an important part of the life of the MacArthur senior. Many people will remember the terrible feeling of waking up before the sun came out to make a 6:30AM driver ed class, and the terror of swerving to miss a collision with a car for the first time, and the look on the face of the instructor after that first near-accident 168-Clubs The Anti-Vandalism Committee serves a very important purpose. It aids in the effort to stop vandalism within the community. Its neighborhood watch program, labeled the eyes and ears of the community, involves residents looking out for each other, and reporting strange and suspicious people in the neighborhood. The chairman for the community is Judge Burton Joseph, and the MacArthur advisor is Mr. Farley. The Print Club performs an essential service for MacArthur. It prints everything needed by the school, such as envelopes with the school address, and tickets for dances and other events. It also prints letterheads for stationery, report cards, and programs for concerts and shows. The Print Club is advised by Mr. Lavoro.
