Lonliness sets in wanting to be like the others, it longs for the security of the rich solid earth. Not wanting to be different, not strong enough to meet the challenge of carrying life by itself, it needs company. It remembers how painfully it had gone through all the seasons of life. Youth — when it was just a bud, not caring yet about life. Adolescence — when it turned many different colors, goals and ambitions finally reached. Death — when it became brittle, weak, and finally was destroyed by what had nourished it, nature. It was confused now, why should it survive longer than all the others. After all it was just a simple, ordinary leaf. ; x)v i sswif p puo C J 6uqAQw gn 91 vo AV uozi H Lsu ouo ppuitu -ft ef4' «r ?rt «SU T£f f«L dSDD- p spuiuu nO S r™ Waiurofs ' Buii WO S WN Guutxm pup Guu Vv’O'? ‘ U(t)9? ||ptus . Everything was so new to me at first — the homerooms, dungarees, the lenient rules and discipline and the presence of the opposite sex. I learned much about American people and their way of life. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at MacArthur for being so friendly and understanding and making this such a wonderful year. I have benefitted in every possible way during my stay and I hope you have benefitted from mine. Hopefully when you think of South Africa now, it won’t just be of wild animals and jungles. The first prise was to be HO, with the other three of decreasing value All the mooey received from the ticket sake would pay for the four prizes and would replenish the G.O. treasury. Enough teachers were recruited to chaperone the event, and the SENTRY staff was ready to sell cake and candy. All the plans were made for a fun night. After the doors opened at 8:15 P.M., the 12.00 tickets were quickly sold gut and hands has to be stamped instead. Students from Plainedge and Island Trees also came to listen to the music 'Hie gym was crowded, and the mooey rolled in. As the students became restless and defensive about their schools, fighting broke out. Bottles and garbage cans flew overhead, and the voting table was knocked down before the police arrived to calm the situation The G.O. made an $800 profit, an amount no other organization in MacArthur has ever made Each band received $50 for participating, and everyone left the gym by midnight. But the fighting continued outside, ving the parking lot littered with broken bottles. Mr. Guecia, the only chaperone present, found it impossible to handk the confu- sion alone. It took over 20 policemen to stop the distur- bance ii Roland Gell, the G.O. preai- lea- dent, claims, “MacArthur stu- dents handled themselves very well, and as far as I could see, did not start any fights Another ‘Battle of the Bands’ is foresee- able in the near future, provid- ing there is adequate supervi- sion 183 I f 185 8 61 SNIWOD3WOH 1978 HOMECOMING QUEEN — DEE ANN GILLEN Runners up: Donna Andreoli Marianne Gregorio Shona Mennear Shari Moreno Patricia Tardera Generals Beat McBurney 24 2 187 thrilling when they came MacArthur vs. Antilles . . .
