In the beginning ... Our school, here In its early stages, was to become a source of pride for Mr. Grant and Mr. Blumberg. Inside the cornerstone laid by Mr. Grant went MacArthur's first yearbook. Who knows? Maybe in a few centuries that yearbook will be uncovered. Left to right: Lt. Col. Robert Kissel, Eli Mellon, Harold Woodhull, Robert Hoshino, Louis Blumberg, Donald Grant. Present with Mr. Grant and Mr. Blumberg at MacArthur's official dedication was General Blackshear Bryan, shown here making the official dedication address. 6

1966 SALUTES . . . MR. LOUIS BLUMBERG SUPERINTENDENT Working unobtrusively but with determination, he has created an atmosphere conducive to success in the teaching-learning process. For instance, he has placed himself in the midst of problems to help teachers and students. Since coming here, Mr. Blumberg has seen the improvement of facilities for the training of handi- capped and vocational students, the reduction in class sizes, the setting up of classes for advanced and slow students, and the building of the auditorium at Levittown Memorial High School. Through his open line of communication to the public, he has secured the enthusiastic community support for his programs, many of which have become reality. Thus a part of the picture he envisions for District 5 is ours now. When time permits and he can get away from his heavy schedule, Mr. Blumberg enjoys non-fiction books. For example, when the interviewers mentioned Ian Fleming's books, he classified them as intri- guing . In addition, he likes fishing, boating and golf. He shows his interest in many sports by his presence at our interscholastic competitions. Those who appreciate the principles of education in modern society are pleased with Mr. Grant and Mr. Blumberg at the helm of our school and district, for in deed and word, they give full expression to those principles. General Douglas MacArthur High School and District 5 are the beneficiaries of the efforts and experience of these two gentlemen. 5

Mr. Grant, who takes an active interest in the accomplishments of his students, is shown here congratulating Marjorie Mat- luck at the 1965 induction ceremony of the Honor Society. At the 1962 Sports Award Night, Mr. Grant and Mr. Blumberg were there with Mr. LaPolla and Mr. Vagts. Our Principal and Superintendent are al- ways on hand at such occasions to praise deserving students. Mr. Blumberg is on hand to give support to our Generals. His camera is ready to preserve for posterity any outstanding play of our team. 7
