Louis Blumberg Superintendent of Schools MacArthur Seniors: From time immemorial, man has always at- tempted to conquer the seemingly insurmountable. However, the greater the task, the greater was man's determination, perserverance and motiva- tion. Challenges have led to accomplishments,- impossibilities have become realities,- the utterly impractical and hopeless have evolved into every- day necessities. Athletes attempting to run a four-minute mile, scientists searching to land on the moon, techni- cians trying to find ways of relaying pictures live to the other side of the globe, doctors seek- ing the cure for many crippling diseases such as polio, once were all faced with the blank wall of impossibility, hopelessness and despair; but the wall was not impenetrable; the barrier was not impregnable,- the hurdles and obstacles were not insurmountable. There was a door and only the key had to be found. Once these doors are opened, other walls may appear—but these, too, will crumble as the door is opened wide. The members of the graduating class of 1965, of the General Douglas MacArthur High School, will face many walls. But they have the key—a master key—their education. It will unlock many doors. They have only to use it and let the sunlight of life and hope shine through. Superintendent o( Schools Board of Education Bernard Morgenstern, Secretary; Vic- tor Buck, Vice President; Angela C. Rubino; Max Zimny, Eli H. Mellon, President; Salvatore C. Gangi; Robert S. Hoshino. 8

Among other responsibilities, they pleasantly welcome visitors, serve os the link between many segments of school life —faculty, administration and student body—by helping enthusiastically in every situation from guarding forgotten lunches to locating people. Our secretaries are without question a vital group in the proper functioning of this school. How is your attendance record coming along Mrs. Rod ? A capable assistant helps Mr. Enderle. 10
