Mr. Joseph McDonald Mr. McDonald's rapport with students is demonstrated by the way he carries out his routine tasks such as the morning reports. In his daily announcements, he gives the news and upcoming events cheerfully, and always ends with a sin- cere Have a good day! This kind of warmth makes the day more pleasant, all typical of his personal touch with the student body. Mr. McDonald has a practical philoso- phy of education. According to him, the end of education is the development of the whole person—intellect, personal- ity, sense of values and judgments. As further espoused by him, education is the sine-qua-non for a life-time of learning to enjoy life, art, beauty and good books For the class of 1965, Mr. McDonald has opened doors of opportunity by encour- aging students to follow their own con- science and always adhere to their ideals Robert Enderle Fairness and friendliness have made Mr. Enderle quite popular with the student body. His cheerful smile has generated strong student-ad- ministration rapport. A typical day will find him completely involved in student activities from interviewing pupils to cheering our teams. Prior to assuming his present po- sition, Mr. Enderle had been the ac- tive chairman of the Business De- partment. The class of 1965 has for- tunately been a first to benefit from the academic though relaxed approach of its new assistant prin- cipal. Mr. Enderle is particularly inter- ested in us because as one of our Freshman advisers, he has watched our growth with enthusiasm. He hopes that our high school educa- tion will instill in us values that will help us to take advantage of social and vocational opportunities. 7

Mr. Donald A. Grant Employing his valuable experience as a football coach and classroom teacher, Mr. Grant has been at the helm of the MacArthur faculty and adminis- tration for three years. This year he has returned to guide us in our scholastic endeavors and help us on the difficult road to active and worthwhile citizen- ship. It is behind his door that we have found many1 answers to seemingly impossible problems. Mr. Grant recognizes that the members of our grad- uating class have emulated their worthy predecessors, and have not only met the challenges of the present but have also reached new milestones for their future success. Principal Congratulations to the Class of 1965 on the publi- cation of MacArthur's fourth yearbook. The best ad- vice I could give young high school graduates in the Soaring Sixties is to meet their family and citizen- ship responsibilities forthrightly and with determina- tion. Society frankly admits that the future of our democracy depends most seriously on the ability of Tomorrow's Adult Citizens to re-evaluate and re- establish the moral and ethical tone in America for which our forefathers struggled so diligently. Tomorrow's adults must seek the means to open doors which have closed into apparently solid walls to today's society. The doors ore there to be re- opened. They are the doors of ethical conduct, re- sponsible government, respect for morality and au- thority, and re-affirmation of the home as a stabilizing influence in modern society. I wish the members of the Class 1965 Godspeed. May the wisdom of Solomon, the courage of a Lincoln, the ethics of a Wilson and the patriotism and devotion to country of a Patrick Henry go with you always! Sincerely, Principal

Louis Blumberg Superintendent of Schools MacArthur Seniors: From time immemorial, man has always at- tempted to conquer the seemingly insurmountable. However, the greater the task, the greater was man's determination, perserverance and motiva- tion. Challenges have led to accomplishments,- impossibilities have become realities,- the utterly impractical and hopeless have evolved into every- day necessities. Athletes attempting to run a four-minute mile, scientists searching to land on the moon, techni- cians trying to find ways of relaying pictures live to the other side of the globe, doctors seek- ing the cure for many crippling diseases such as polio, once were all faced with the blank wall of impossibility, hopelessness and despair; but the wall was not impenetrable; the barrier was not impregnable,- the hurdles and obstacles were not insurmountable. There was a door and only the key had to be found. Once these doors are opened, other walls may appear—but these, too, will crumble as the door is opened wide. The members of the graduating class of 1965, of the General Douglas MacArthur High School, will face many walls. But they have the key—a master key—their education. It will unlock many doors. They have only to use it and let the sunlight of life and hope shine through. Superintendent o( Schools Board of Education Bernard Morgenstern, Secretary; Vic- tor Buck, Vice President; Angela C. Rubino; Max Zimny, Eli H. Mellon, President; Salvatore C. Gangi; Robert S. Hoshino. 8
