SPEECH Two boys and fue gxrls composed the speech class the flrst semester Flrst we studled the physxcal aspects of speech and breathxng Then we studled varlous k1nds of speeches and the steps ln composmg them We clmmaxed thls part of the course by gxvmg long polztlcal speecl es for our favorlte pres1dent1alcand1date to the rest of the hxgh school just pr1or to the general electlon Much of our tlme then untnl Chrxstmas was spent 1n deslgnlng and makmg the stage settlngs for the operetta Chomta and the Chrlstmas pageant Why the Chlmes Rang After xacatlon we StUd19d formal speeches and concluded that study wlth a debate on the questxon Resolx ed That the sale of alcohol1c beverages should be ln C1t18S only and there determlned by local opt1on The negatlve won by the close decxslon of two to one We are waxtxng now to see just what our Kansas Leglslature decxdes to do ln handlmg the sale of alcohollc beverages We have recently been readlng one act plays and makmg cuts from them If a suxtable play can be found we shall enter the K S H,A A speech and drama festlval We also plan to produce an Easter play Later we shall study and practlce after dmner speeches m preparatlon for the jumor Senior banquet No doubt some of us w1ll make the all school play and all of us wxll help on 1ts stage settings One of the most enllghtemng features of the cllass has been the use of a wlre recorder Most of us were hzghly astounded to hear ourselves as others hear us erry Knudson s Jommg the class the second semester has gxven us another male whxch helps slmplxfy the castmg of plays from the group 'lr lk if IN APPRECIATION The Staff takes this means to express vxslble appreclatxon to Mr jerry Knudson and Mrs Breta Treat for the tlme and consxderatlon they have given us xn takmg most of the pxctures for thxs annual We also thank all those who have wrltten articles for thls yearbook or in any way helped make tt a success 25 I A . . . . .. .
