FOREWORD T0 common knowledge, a School of Nursing is regarded as an institution in which young women pre- pare themselves, through three years of concentrated study in formal classes, ward Classes, and ward duty, to care for the sick and needy and nurse them back to health. To us, the members of the Class of 1954, Geisinger means much more. It signifies a stepping stone to greater horizons, which can be attained only through consistent hard work and high Spirits. T0 cross this stepping stone, we went through a series of doorways; doorways of various sizes and shapes and leading to rooms pleasant 0r nondescript in decor. Nevertheless, each doorway assumed a significant role in our three years here at Geisinger. By taking you through these doorways, we hope to impart to you, through the mediums of photography and the printed word, the elusive and intangible quali- ties which incorporate to form iithe Spirit of G. M. H.
