DEDICATION The 1964 GALAXY, the first in the history of Father Geibel Memorial High School, is gratefully dedicated to Reverend Henry Geibel, who in a basic sense, was responsible for its existence. Twelve years ago, on the occasion of his golden jubilee of his ordination to the Holy Priesthood, it was said of him, As an educator, Father well knew that one of the most effective means of securing perpetuity in religious training is the Catholic High School. In 1930, as he presented diplomas to twelve high school graduates from Immaculate Conception High School, Father Geibel saw the fulfillment of his dream. But progress is never at a standstill, and change is God's Providence at workg and so, for many years since that first high school graduation. Father Geibel set his sights on a new vision-a high school building. separate from the elementary grades, one that would accommodate a far greater number of students. Father purchased a large tract of land in the Hillcrest area of Connells- ville. This became the site of the new high school, however, Father did not live to the day when the transition was made from the Immaculate Conception Parish High School to the Diocesan Father Geibel Memorial High School. The dream of this zealous Priest of God did not dissolve into thin air because other educators continued his work and made it a reality. Truly, the Words of the golden-mouthed St, John Chrysostom must have been their inspiration: What greater work is there than training the mind and forming the habits of the young?'l May the torch of our lives lighted by this zeal burn in tribute to FATHER HENRY GEIBEL.
