ISTANBUL, TURKEY Arriving in Istanbul on the 9th of March, we were just in time for the coldest month of the year in this city. This, however, did not prevent us from taking advantage of the highlights of this cosmopolitan crossroads of Eurasia. Such sites of interest as the Blue Mosque and the Golden Horn attracted many of us. Istanbul is abundant with ruins of the former Ottoman and Byzantine Empire. Port of Istanbul View of Bosphorus

Tlie Acropolis Temple of Jupiter Olyinpien ATHENS, GREECE Arriving in Athens on the 16th for a one week stay was a fitting end for our Med deployment. The granduer of the Acropolis was another of the many, many highlights of an extraordinary cruise. Leaving the ancient center of the Greek Empire, we sailed west- ward to Rota, Spain, where we completed our turnover to our relief, relinguished our place in the Sixth Fleet and set a very straight course for home. Leaving the Med brought a twinge of sad- ness to some of us, but the thought of re- turning home liad the same joyous effect on us all. Tlie memories of this cruise will be with us for years to come, and no doubt in the future our memories will bring back nostalgic visions of a particular moment dur- ing our six month stay, but for every one of us, there is no place like home.
