THE LHST UIUHIJ ?? The time has at last come to assemble and send to press the last of the 1954 Northern Echo. I've been told that it is fittin' and proper for me, as editor, to fill up this last page with comments, compliments, and a terrible picture of myself. That picture was taken by two members of the Science Club who are also in journalism class--Sam Butcher and Wayne Manier. Sam took the picture, and Wayne, as you might guess, was given the job of repairing the camera afterward. Wayne Manier, as assistant yearbook editor, was helpful to have around and now is as good a time as any to thank him most lavishly for his assistance. But I'l1 just say Thanks, Wayne, and be done with it. Louise McVannel, as business manager of this book, certainly did her share and more. I certainly appreciate her capable and industrious attitude when it came to selling ads and all that tedious business. Mike Freel, assistant business manager, was a big help too. Gary Norton, business manager of the Outlook was also on the job selling ads for the Northern Echo and he did a good job. Ellen Henretty, treasurer, rates a medal for her competent slaving over the financial records of the journalism class. Sam Butcher, who in normal times acted as the Outlook editor, was a good kid to have around when there were pictures to be taken and developed in a hurry or when there was other scientific business to be done, believe me! Ward Taylor, a non-journalist, was very nice about doing our art work and, as usual, he did a rather wonderful job. I really think I shouldn't be writing this page at all. That's what I said, pal, and that's what I mean. The guiding hand behind the assembly of this book has been that of Mr. Henry Smith, school principal and journalism advisor. He deserves all the credit for putting this thing together, but he chivalrously allows the laurel wreaths to remain on my worry-creased brow. He also unchivalrously allows the blame for slipups to fall on me, and that part I highly disfavor, but I am incapable of doing much about it. The idea of this letter to you is to let you know how much I appreciate the help of every one of those mentioned above, and-even if you are not mentioned, I want to tell you thanks for helping, for very few of you escaped being pressed into service at one time or another. Ihope very sincerely that you have enjoyed, and will continue to enjoy for many years, this book we have all worked so hard on. I'd better stop now, because I'm starting to feel a case of nostalgia, besides which I'm running out of space. Martha Coppins
