SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL aTURfi— 1982 Opening School Life Academics Faculty Seniors Underclass I Organizations 17 Sports 39 Advertisements 57 Closing Index Life is the series of exper¬ iences, of body and mind, which make up the history of a person from birth to death.” The Life of a Gavit student was very busy and exciting, it started off as usual, meeting and making new friends and becoming closer with old friends. Although the Life of a Gavit student included taking tests and making reports, he still found time to have some fun. The Gavit student attended many activities during the school year. One activity which has be¬ come a tradition is the Senior English Tea. Although everyone thought that having fun was the most im¬ portant thing in Life, they still left time in their schedules to study. There was still the final goal to meet, the receiving of one’s diploma. LU i J i _MILES.fiND The years that a student spends in high school could be measured In miles. What does a student think of when he is asked about the milestones he has passed in his high school career? He may think of the lonely halways that extend in front of him as he arrives tardy to dass. He may think of the vast distance that surrounds this planet of ours or the many miles of pavement he has covered cruis¬ ing up and down the boulevard on Friday nights. He may think of the many books he has paged through for that certain report. Fie may think of the countless times he has gazed into the miles of sky in search of a goal for his future in this country. Fie may think of the endless miles of stairs he has climbed to reach his classroom. Fie may think of the plans he has made to travel in different directions after he graduates from high school. But most of al. he may wish he were miles and miles away from home, yet always finding some way of returning. . Students share their ideas about ordering I- shirts. 3. Moments of togetherness are en¬ joyed by those who attended Winter Format, i. Phi! Kucer is caught in the act of foolish¬ ness. 4. Fire people who were lucky to attend the Rolling Stones concert show off their shirts. 5. Garit students after a hard day of school work. 6. Ted Berdine and John lynch lake a break during the blood drive. Smile: A change of facial expres¬ sion involving a brightening of the eyes and an upward curving of the corners of the mouth. It may ex¬ press amusement, pleasure, tender affection, approval, or any of var¬ ious other emotions.” F SMILES aOINO DOWH Success means a favorable course or termination of anything attempted, to achieve or to satisfy.” But to Gavit students it has meant different things at different times. A student ' s four years of high school were filled with many obstacles which had to be passed. During these four years students encountered many new experiences, and they learned that to succeed in life, one must do well. This was always stressed by their teachers and parents. But as these years went by. these students learned that success not only meant doing well, but also knowing that you’ve done your best. Here at Gavit students expressed their different meanings. Success meant finishing a race or beating the other team, it meant receiving the Spirit Award for the Seniors or doing well on a test. Some students found success in well-done plays or helping at very successful blood drives. The Senior English classes succeeded in accomplishing a very traditional tea which was enjoyed by all. The foods classes also prepared an enjoyable Thanksgiving din¬ ner for all its invited guests. But the one day all Seniors shared in feeling proud was Graduation Day. This day was filled with many different emotions, but the one that stood out was knowing that one had succeeded and done his best. This is the true meaning of success. osaccEss 13 October 9.1981 marked the Ist. annual football home¬ coming at Gavit. Each class spent weeks in preparation and participated in the spirit week. At the pep assem¬ bly the varsity coach announced the 1981 Gavit Gladia¬ tor football team. The classes put on their skits, cheered and screamed, hoping that their class would win the Spirit Award. The cheerleaders announced Mr. Football as George Blummer. and Greg Sudicky was awarded the Sexiest Legs award. Later floats came to the school parking lot for the game. The fans filled the stands as 7:30 rolled around. At halftime the 1981 h ome¬ coming court was called onto the field. The court con¬ sisted of Dawn Boring. Danielle MacDonald. Leslie Sheetz. Tina Wright. Karen York and last year ' s queen. Rosemary Gracyzk. Then the special moment was about to happen as the speaker began to announce the Queen. This year ' s 1981-8 Homecoming Queen was Tina Wright. After all the girls and their escorts were seat¬ ed. the winners for best float and most spirit were announced. The class of ' 84 won best float, and the Senior Class for the 3nd consecutive year won most spirit. In The Dream Of The acting is gone. It’s time to move on. Find the life of yours And see what ' s in store. Don’t ever be afraid to cry. It’s there, it’s a part of life. Nobody is better than yourself. It’s your dream — make it reality. Tomorrow ! The gift is in your hands. That is your present, enjoy it. , Because nobody else can. ' Your life lies in your hands. And remember when you cry. , It’s alright, they ' re your tears. | They will soon dry, so good ficck. I Do all the best you can do. - Mark C. The band, accompanied by the color guard, performed at every home game during half-time. The drum majors, Kim McCaw and Lori Westman. were a great help to Mr. Anderson. They helped teach the new routines to the band members and directed half-time performances. On December 16 the Concert Band presented its first concert of the year, with songs ranging from march music to Christmas favor¬ ites. It also presented spring con¬ cert on April 32nd and an awards concert on May 6th when those members who qualified received awards. The 1981 footbaH team had the support of both the parents and the students, but that was not enough for a victorious season. The season ended with a record of I win and 9 losses. The only win was against the Morton Governors, our main ri- vals. The game ended with a 7 to 0 score. The other nine defeats were unjustly deserved. The team made mistakes in clutch moments in their games which contributed to their losses, but they always put forth a galant gladiator effort and they were in every game. A perfect example was the gladiators’ first game of the season against Giffith Pan¬ thers. They lost that game, but it was the toughest game the high¬ ly rated Panthers had al year.
