Business W orld Studied in Depth For students who are not planning on a college education, business courses are offered. As usual, typing and shorthand were in great demand as they taught basic business skills. To supplement this basic knowledge, students had a choice of sev- eral additional courses such as book- keeping, transcription, sales, general busi- ness, and business law. Bookkeeping students figured credit, debt, financial liability, and income, and then balanced them to the respective budgets. Shorthand i ncluded dictation tests which had to be successfully com- pleted to pass the course. Transcription combines shorthand and typing skills, while business law and sales provide stu- dents with knowledge of commercial procedures which will benefit them in their future relations in the business world. English Builds Self-Confidence MRS. DIANA PANOZZO— English, Speech, Drama; B. S.-Indiana University; Speech Sponsor By placing oneself in practical, regular, or college preparatory English courses, each student at Gavit is allowed to work at his own pace to achieve success and the goal to which he has been working. Being the largest department at Gavit, the teachers make an effort to relate to their students the necessity of having a well-rounded background in English. The many electives to choose from try to provide this by offering many courses of study that interest the youth of today. One may make use of the drama courses and facilities available or enroll in courses in efforts to obtain self-con- fidence.
