Disappointments of Competition

Remember the Thrills and The strains of competition are shown in several ways— moods, expressions, and actions. It is not only limited to the thrilling competition of athletics. Competition is the act of striving against another, it is achieving superiority; it is seeking a rivalry. The emotional pressures of competition are clearly expressed by our actions and facial expressions. Gavit students express a feeling of competitive spirit during a nail-biting football joust. There is anxiety and a desire to reach the top. The competitive spirit in academics is much more subtle than in athletic contests. Here emotions and tensions are not as freely released as at a sports event. Not all of us reach the height of our capabilities as is sometimes shown when report cards are issued. An achievement test, a football game, an outstanding report card; all involve the strain of competition. Tim Flener strains to bridge that last hurdle.
