School City Honors By R. B. MILLER, Superintendent of Schools The honor of having a school building named after an individual comes to relatively few, and especially is it an exception that a school building is named for a person during his lifetime. The fact that such an honor has been accorded to Donald E. Gavit by action of the Board of School Trustees, elected by and representing the voters of the City of Ham¬ mond, indicates recognition of “long, out¬ standing, conscientious and dedicated service to the schools as teacher and Business Man¬ ager.” The various members of the Board of School Trustees under whom Mr. Gavit has served during his twenty-five years as Busi¬ ness Manager have respected and concurred in his belief that the schools must be operated for the benefit of the children and that costs of education are, in general, comparative with quality of education. Because of his fine spirit of cooperation, the maintenance employees, teachers, princi¬ pals and administrators join in extending hearty congratulations to Donald E.
