The lesty Spanish Club float adds spicy spirit to the Homecoming Parade. Gavit’s 1970-71 Homecoming festivities began in full swing with a Pep Rally the evening before the game. Several skits and humorous pep talks entertained the crowd. Suspense in the crowd mounted as Terry Irk was crowned Mr. Foot¬ ball. The highlight of the evening was the crowning of senior Bonnie Sutton, escorted by Ray Perry, as Gavit’s 1970-71 Football Home¬ coming Queen. Bonnie’s court in¬ cluded Gail Thomas escorted by Jim Wilson; Cindy Mead escorted by John Carpenter; Liz Lain escort¬ ed by John Pressley; Julie Fogarty escorted by John Merrill. A joyous beat moves dancing feet at the Homecoming Dance celebration. Homecoming Day’s celebrations started with the annual Homecom¬ ing Parade consisting of many en¬ trants. The freshman class won in the class float category with the theme “Senators, You Didn’t Have Your Wheaties.’’ In club float com¬ petition, the Spanish Club won and the individual car award was pre¬ sented to the cheerleaders. At the Football Pep Rally, skits were presented to support our Glads for the ensuing battle. Gladiators Celebrate A Cheerleader Robin Blosky and Coach Quinn charge the Pep Rally with a Glad spirit. The Freshmen class float lists the ingre¬ dients for a winning team: good coaching and plenty of mus¬ cle. 24

Basketball Homecoming Festivities January 8, 1971 marked Gavit’s sixth annual Basketball Homecom¬ ing- The announcement of Terry Hlavaty as “Mr. Letterman” launched the half-time activities. Junior Kathy McLaughlin was crowned 1971 Basketball Home¬ coming Queen by last year’s queen, Julie Klapkowski. Kathy was es¬ corted by Ray Perry. Her court included Karen Dockery escorted by Doug Premuda; Gail Thomas escorted by Bob Wendell; Cindy Mead escorted by Wayne Snider; and Carol Baran escort by Randy Lessard. The drill team provided the entertainment with their rou¬ tine to “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head.” The energetic Glads were enter¬ tained by “Ore” at the dance that followed the game. Mr. Letterman, Terry Hlavaty, greets admiring fans. Soul folk get down to earth at the Basketball Homecoming Dance. Janice Wargo, Randy Les¬ sard, Carol Baran, and Devida Houldson enjoy the music of “Ore.” 26
