Scholastic Excellence The 1968 Valedictorian was Beth Ba- sanda. Beth is currently attending Indi¬ ana University in Bloomington. She will receive her Bachelor of Music Educa¬ tion degree with concentration on piano in December, 1971. She hopes to begin teaching music in January, 1972. Her plans for the near future include mar¬ riage early in 1972. Linda Schneider (Mrs. Douglas Har¬ ris), graduated from Gavit in 1967. She is now a senior at Indiana University in Bloomington, majoring in German. Her minor is math. Linda will be cer¬ tified to teach these subjects in high school after she receives her B.A. de¬ gree in June. She married last August to Douglas Harris, from Western Springs, Illinois. He will graduate this spring from Indiana University with a B.S. degree in accounting. Linda be¬ longs to the Sigma Kappa Soroity, and her husband to Phi Sigma Kappa Fra¬ ternity. Gail Hartman, graduated from Gavit in 1969. She is now in her second year at the University of Chicago. Gail has chosen to follow in her fathers foot¬ steps by majoring in Psychology. She has not decided on her plans for the future. She feels that she would rather wait a few years before choosing either to continue her education or to enter a related field of psychology. Anne Royal was the valedictorian of the class of 1970. She is presently at¬ tending Carleton College in Minnesota. Her major is language with an emphasis on German. Anne has an intense interest in mu¬ sic and is a member of a musical group in college. Her greatest philosophy about life is to enjoy it. 15

GHS Recognizes Sue Sanders, (now Mrs. William Ault), graduated from Gavit in 1964. She was our first valedictorian and first editor of the “P itura.” Since gradua¬ tion, Sue has attained many honors for herself. She attended Indiana Univer¬ sity in Bloomington where she received her A.B. degree, in 1968. Her major was German, minor was Russian, and she belonged to the Alpha Gamma Del¬ ta Sorority. She married William Ault, Jr., in August of 1963. Her husband is a math teacher at Floyd Central High School, while Sue’s present occupation is a German teacher and Yearbook ad¬ visor at Clarksvile Sr. High. Her plans for the near future are to finish work on her Master Degree (which she is halfway through now), and to spend nine weeks in Europe this summer. Jerry R. Knoth, a 1965 Gavit grad, has made many accomplishments for himself. He attended Purdue University in Lafayette, where he received a B.S. degree in 1969. Jerry’s major was Com¬ puter Science, and minor was Biology. Since then he has worked for a com¬ puter manufacturer. Control Data Cor¬ poration, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, as a Systems Analyst and Programer. In 1967 Jerry married Nancy Linowski, also a ’65 Gavit graduate. A graduate of 1966, William G. Thegze was an honored student. Since gradua¬ tion, he has attended Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, and received a bach¬ elor’s degree in mathematics in 1970. At present William is attending North¬ western University where he is work¬ ing on his master’s degree.
