Construction Continues On May 26, 1965 the music area, •hop area, the west wing, and the auditorium and stage facilities were dedicated. The music area included middle school music rooms, an or¬ chestra room, senior band room and a senior choral room. The shop area is comprised of electricity, electron¬ ics, graphic arts, mechanical draw¬ ing, wood work and metal labora¬ tories. The auditorium and stage fa¬ cilities included a mirrored make¬ up room, two dressing rooms, an auditorium that seats 1140 and a little theater which seats 144. These events are just a few of the ones that helped to get Gavit started and shape it the way it is now. Since that first graduating class of 1964, Gavit has expanded and grown to the extent that we see every day. This spring, a new Physical Edu¬ cation addition is being added to the Donald E. Gavit High School facilities. This addition will include an Olympic size pool. The pool will make possible the introduction of water sports to the Gavit athletics agenda. The P.E. addition will also include a separate area for wrestl¬ ing practice and meets. With an outlook for practicality, hair dryers will be installed near the pool facil¬ ities so that colds are not contract¬ ed due to wet hair. Hair dryers will be available for both males and fe¬ males. It is hoped that this P.E. center will increase interests in sports, and also aid students in at¬ taining health and physical fitness. Construction on auditorium begins in Summer 1964.

Dedicated Teachers Endow GHS With Their Knowledge For the past ten years, the stu¬ dents of Gavit have been guided through their high school years by the group of teachers pictured b low. Their respective fields of in¬ struction cover a large scope of subjects: English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Home Economics, Art, Drama, Languages, and Physi¬ cal Education. Others have render¬ ed their advice officially, as counse¬ lors and student advisors, or un¬ officially as friends, and people genuinely interested in the welfare of Gavit students. These teachers have aided us in acquiring the skill to distinguish gerunds from infinitives, solve poly¬ nomial equations, mold lumps of clay into creative expressions of life, understand the history and work¬ ings of our government, develop fluency in foreign languagees, ac¬ quire physical prowness in sports, appreciate the growth of theater throughout the civilized world, and manage a household efficiently. In more ways than one, these teachers have aided the adolescent’s meta¬ morphosis from child to adult- No printed word nor spoken plea can teach young hearts what men should he. Not all the books on all the shelves, but what teachers are themselves.
