Aspiring Artists Express Individual Traits While in art projects Peggy Ritz creatively makes a hook rug. Drawing, painting, lettering, gra¬ phics, designing, and weaving were some of the limitless projects ex¬ plored in Art I. This studio course was designed to make beginner artists aware of the fundamentals involved in art. Art II was offered to students in.- terested in developing personal tech¬ niques in artistry. Sculpture, cer¬ amics, and carving were included in its curriculum to broaden the sec¬ ond semester artists’ comprehension or art. Art project’s advanced pupils were free to select a project which would suit their own desires as well as extend their skills. Art history covered the evolution of styles in painting of various his¬ torical periods, the influence of the past upon contemporary materials, and the role of art in society. Superstaffers of the Futura ponder the age old question of “which picture should we put in?” 18

Girls Chorale Selected for National Honor Polly Barten rearranges her musical score when she’s reminded that Janis Joplin isn’t allowed in Music Theory class. The Gavit choir department, di¬ rected by Mr. Thomas T. Clark, began the year by making plans for concerts and engagements for the forthcoming season. The Fall Concert ran smoothly with an array of numbers and the Christmas Concert presented the season in both cheerful and serious tones to an enthusiastic audience. The Spring Concert was most ori¬ ginal by using a theme about the “Moon;” giving special attention to the moon wedk last July. The Concert Choir held engage¬ ments throughout the city at the request of various churches. WJOB was happy to have the choir as their guests and aired their live performance of the Christmas can¬ tata, entitled “Shepherds Rejoice.” Most rewarding of all events was the engagement held at the Sher¬ man House in Chicago for the American Choral Directors Assn., Midwest Convention.
