Midnight Mist coats Scherwood Club Pre-prom panic that sent economy-minded boys pinching pennies and calorie-conscious girls crash dieting ended with second prom, May 16, 1964. “Midnight Mist” theme coated the atmosphere at Schererville’s Scherwood Club as 122 couples danced to music of Johnnie Nowlan. Blue strips of ribbon garnished with white net- ting parted the white table tops. Champagne glass centerpieces rimmed with blue angel hair and fille d with blue water cradled a floating candle. Two white carnations straddled centerpieces. Student-elected queen, Tula Carstensen and her escort Chuck Stahl led the grand march around the blue and white decorated ballroom. Midnight buffet dinner provided by Condes’ Restaurant followed the coronation. Three-thirty a.m. brunch ended festivity. PROM CINDERELLAS whirl to the music of Johnnie Nowlon ' s Bond, PROM ' S HONORED GUESTS include Dr. Joseph Hendrick, superintendent of Hammond Public Schools, Mrs. Hendrick, Mrs. Gavit and Mr. Donald E. LOUIE, LOUIE” and Valley of the Jolly Green Giant” highlight 105 minute afternoon performance by Kingsmen Norm Sundholm, Lynn Eoston, Mike Mitchell, Dick Peterson and Barry Curtis. 3 r fund drives, basketball tournament Mr. Frank Gradisher reset tables for next rush of breakfasters. Student enthusiasm for ticket sales smashed records and dubbed fifth annual pancake break- fast “largest in the world”. PTA divvied out pro- ceeds to school clubs and departments. Pancakers boasting, six dollar ticket sales con- vened in auditorium March 21 for 105 minute lark by the Kingsmen. Fivesome, commenting on “Louie, Louie”, tossed two souvenir neckties and a drumstick to audience. High-ticket-selling seventh graders earned ring- side rights in capacity crowd. Kingsmen escaped throng of autograph hunters by pulling out as decoy car held fans. Eight Gavit boys joined cohorts from Griffith and Hammond High for Mr. Sam Spitale’s bas- ketball team. Entered in the Whiting Community Basketball League, team boasted record of eleven wins and five losses. Page Twenty-five
