Typical school scenes spice routine LEAVING WRAPPERS, empty plates in his wake, the average senior boy downs two sandwiches, one and one-fifth ice cream bars, two cartons of milk and one and two-fifths Twinkies during lunch. Scaling one way stairs, dialing locker combina- tions and rushing to classes, book-burdened stu- dents trudged through a typical school day. “Early bird’’ first hour students hit the books at 7:45 a.m. while “late comers” began the day with second hour at 8:45 a.m. Hall commuters bearing wooden passes or green attendance sh eets whizzed past stationed hall monitors to their destinations. Decked in posters, the hallways turned into fieldhouse as practicing trackmen clad in tennis shoes bolted through them. Construction workers became a familiar sight as they hammered their way down the halls put- ting finishing touches on the construction. En route to classes, students stopped to investi- gate showcases decorated with displays ranging from “leder hosen,” Bavarian Bermudas, to Ger- man beer steins, bee hives and trophies. After taking notes, tests, writing themes, term papers and developing writer’s cramp, homeward- bound high schoolers filed out of the building at either 2:45 or 3:45 p.m. LURING long lines of thirsty students, 23 fountains tempt hall commuters like senior Jane Dibblee to pause for a “water break.
