Speech As An Academic Class Sr. Heidi Hill laughs as Traci Rhines presents his humorous speech. Traci Clark pretends to fly a kite and Beth Bungay pretends to help. Gateway academics had a speech class that taught students to commu- nicate with others, get a point across through persuasion, how to use ges- tures, body language and how to ex- press ones self. The class had approxi- mately 15 people in it. Speech classes helped students learn how to speak in front ofa group and do it comfortably. Forensics was the most advanced speech class. It had a combination of seniors, juniors, sophomores and fresh- men. Members of the speech 4, 2, and 3 classes were not able to compete in meets without becoming members of speech club. But members of forensics automatically became members of speech club and could compete at various meets. Jo Kadlecek was the teacher of all of the classes. She encouraged stu- dents to take the classes to learn to communicate well. Senior Traci Clark competed in a meet at Niwot. She said, lt was enjoy- able and I made a lot of new friends.
