af! Susan Ward When Susan Ward came to Gateway from Maryland during her Junior year, she started getting involved in activi- ties, such as Student Government, Peer Counseling, and Close-Up. Some of Susan's favorite hobbies are horse- back riding, playing tennis, and listen- ing to all kinds of music. Susan has big plans for her future. After high school she would like to at- tend CU and wants to take a dual ma- jor in lnternational Affairs and French. Susan's philosophy of life is, You have to work hard at everything you do I 74 Senior Hall of Fame Heidi Thigpen Keep your feet on the ground but keep reaching for the stars, was Hei- di Thigpen's advice to future upper- classmen. Secretary of the Senior Class, Na- tional Honors Society, and Mu Alpha Theta, were some of Heidi Thigpen's activities. During Heidi's time at Gate- way, she was very active in athletics such as Cross Country for four years, Varsity Soccer, and Gymnastics. Heidi also expressed her creative side, she was involved with the Thespians and a member of the Athenians. Besides her activities in school, she also enjoys lis- tening to music, especially Culture Club, dancing, and watching Monty Python. After High School, Heidi plans to follow a unique course of study in the performing arts outside of Colora- do Qacross the Atlantic Ocean in Eng- landj. ln closing, Heidi wants all to re- member that, For all of you who don't believe me, l am going to marry Boy George and you're not invited to the wedding. i Jeff Girkin Jeff Girkin proved himself as a achiever at Gateway, both in spor and in academics. During his time high school, he participated in Varsil Football, Basketball, and Baseball a four years. He received seven Varsi' letters, three in Baseball, two in Ba ketball, and two in Football. To go wi' all this, Jeff maintained a 3.82 grac point average and was involved in N Alpha Theta, National Honor Societ and President of the Boy's Basketb. Club. Jeff plans to enroll in college aft, high school and study in the field 1 Electrical Engineering and Computi Programming. .leff's advice to the f ture upperclassmen is, Champions ai not common people. Champions a champions because they do things lo ers refuse to do.

0.92026 wx Joyce Davis Holding the office of Senior Class President, Captain of the heerleading Squad and Homecoming Queen were only a few f the many achievements of Joyce Davis. During Joyce's our years at Gateway, she was very active in Student Gov- lernment as Freshman Class Secretary and Junior Class Trea- :urer and also in Girls Track where she lettered all four years. 'or her involvement Joyce has earned recognition by receiv- ng a United States Cheerleading Achievement Award, Na- ional Leadership and Services Award and being listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students. Outside of school activities, Joyce enjoys collecting pins including her famous Buckwheat pinj and listening to New ave Music. In addition she also lists the unauthorized sales f MSM's and watching her favorite soaps, General Hospi- al and All My Children, among her many hobbies. Joyce Llans to attend college and possibly pursue a major in tele- communications. Michael Lichtwardt Michael Lichtwardt's high school years were very active, especially in Marching Band where he lettered three times. Maintaining a 4.0 grade point average and being first in the class, gave Mike recognition at Gateway. He was nominated for Outstanding Young American and for the Elks Club Award. Michael's involvement in school includes, Stage Band, Mu Alpha Theta, and National Honor Society. In Band he plays the Saxophone in first chair. Some of Michael's hobbies are, collecting stamps, drawing, and working with computers. ln the future, Michael would like to attend the Air Force Academy and study Architectural Engineering. 0 t9Z!7Z6 lil'- - Vernon Clark Pay attention to your classes, but don't take them too riously it'll give you high blood pressure, was the philos- hy of Vernon Clark. l Vernon was involved with numerous extracirricular activi- es which included Varsity Football, Thespians, Science Fic- on Fantasy Club, Speech Club, Student Government, and Enior Class Vice-President. English and Drama were his vorite classes. Vernon appeared in the productions of ypsy, Romeo and Juliet, The Miser, Over Here, d Tell Me That You Love Me Junie Moon and was voted ost Improved Actor of '82, Acting played a large part in 'ernon's life, and after attending the University of Wyoming nd serving in either the Air Force or Navy, he is considering career in the theatre. Katy Wescott Graduating second in the class was not enough for Katy Westcott. In addition to academics, Katy also exceled in athletics and club involvement. Katy was a member of the Varsity Volleyball team for three years and received Honor- able Mention All-League Volleyball in her Junior and Senior years. A three year member of Latin Club and Mu Alpha Theta, Katy held the office of President in both clubs. She also belonged to National Honor Society and Ski Club. Katy name appeared in Who's Who Among American High School Students, and she was awarded a United States National Leadership Merit Award. Katy's sense of humor helped her get over difficult obsta- cles, the common phrase knock on wood was replaced by knock on plaster when Katy spent six months of her Soph- omore year in a body cast. After graduating from Gateway, Katy plans to attend CU or possibly an out-of-state college and study electrical engineering and is considering entering into Hi-Tech research. Individuals
