Second Voice: Sure it’s me. Who’s this? Voice I.—This is Mee. Voice II.—Well, what’s your name? Voice I.—Mee. Voice II.—Of course you. Who’d you think? Voice I.—Isn’t this Hugh? Voice II.—Of course it’s me. Voice I.—No I’m Mee. Voice II.—Did I say you weren’t you? Voice I.—Not Hugh, Mee. Listen, I want to talk to Hugh. Voice II.—Well, aren’t you? Voice I—Hugh who? (There is a noise as of plaster being rent asunder, and amidst the crash of a falling telephone, imprintable imprecations are heard being uttered about people who yodel over the telephone.) Durwood: I understand that Clarice is quite poetic. Frank: Yeah, How come? Durwood: All the stubs in his check book read; “Ode to a guy. Murrel: Gee, Ralph, that candy in the window makes my mouth water. Ralph: Well, here’s a blotter. J. B. How many fellows bring you candy? Rae Virginia: All of them except you. J. B.: Well, bring some out I’m hungry. James Boyd: We’re going to give the bride a shower. Malvern King: Count me in I’ll bring the towels. Horace Hardin says that a rhinocerous is only a hippopotamus with a radiator cap. Very cautiously the freshman walked into Mr. Comer’s office. He was trembling from head to foot; he felt faint; how could he stand the strain? The superintendent was busy with one of those horrible sophomores, and he would have to wait. But is was impossible, he thought, to bear the suspense much longer; he must speak up. But the moment had arrived; the sophomore had gone and Mr. Comer was asking, “Well,what is it now?” This was the crisis; he must not lose his nerve, so he summoned all his courage and said: “Please Sir, may I use the telephone?” A Math Prof’s Daily Schedule After having described its circular journey around the clock dial, his alarm clock rings to the millionth of a second on time respectively on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings and awakens the Professor. After waking he assumes a right angle position on the side of the bed. Then he becomes perpendicular to the plane of the floor, and starts walking, thus setting a line i motion and making a plane which is perpendicular to the floor. He then dresses, by first substracting his pajamas from himself and adding his clothing. He adjusts his tie to five decimal places and combs his hair by describing arcs, with the comb, which are tangent to his head. He then eats one squared piece of toast and the square root of four eggs, and also drinks one third of three cups of coffee. He then walks to school in as straight a line as possible; but he necessarily makes three right angles, one ninety-five degree angle, and one one-hundred ten degree angle turns. Arriving at his desk he seats himself and starts his mathematical brain to working in order to plan his days work geometrically. In class his explanations are like postulates and his questions like the shortest path between two points. And if he finds that you cannot investigate deductively the spatial, serial, and numerical relations existing between objects of perception, he grades with a circle. At the end of the day he sums up all your misdemeanors and by a peculiar process of multiplication and squaring, he proves that the plane surface of a board should intercept a certain curvilinear surface of your anatomy. He goes home with the same arithmetical precision with which he came, and performs conversely the same things in going to bed that he did in arising. He talks in his sleep of lunes, proportions, axioms, and such trash, and he probably cubes his nibhtmares until he thinks he sees a horse show.
