' , Mau. 4 ' - This year, the Girls' Varsity Soccer Team proved that you don't have to be a guy to play a great game of soccer. By defeating Brighton 3-1 they became the Section 5 Champions, and went on to play in the state tournament. The girls beat Lockport 3-0 and then lost to Vestal 1-0 in the semifinals. They ended their winning season with a 20-3 record, and they became the first team from G-C to win the Western Region Championship. Players Michele Buono, Kelly Gorman, Missy Janicki, Tracy Richards, and Laurie McQueen were named to All-County or All-Greater Rochester teams for their outstanding performances. The MVP was Sharon Callahan, and Marie Mangini was MIP. The team's leading scorer, Kelly Gorman, received All-American honors, and was named one of the top twenty high school soccer players in the country. Third year Varsity coach Steve Wilson, on behalf of the girls' soccer program, would like to thank all of the students, staff, and faculty for their dedicated support throughout the season.
