4. A, , i On the First Day of school, It was Basically the some old Thing, But with . . . A ew Twist On September 3rd, Gates-Chili students returned to school for the start of a new year and a new system. The entire district was reorganized, which meant that the freshmen were now a part of the high school. The im- plementation of this program brought 400 more students and many faculty members from the Middle School. Perhaps the largest ques- tion was, where do we put them, but this and all other problems were solved, and a smooth transition occurred. There were also, of course, the typical first day events: reunions with old friends, the meeting of new friends, a new schedule with a variety of classes, and of course, a chance to show off your new wardrobe. Guidance counselors were swamped for weeks with students wanting to drop one course, switch another, change into period 5 lunch to eat with their friends, or just fix a computer er- ror. Since both the classes of '89 and '90 were new to the building, there were maps everywhere telling them, You Are Here, but unfortunately, not showing them how to get to there. But, of course, the juniors and seniors were more than willing to tell them where room 403 was, or how to get to the cafeteria. By the end of day one, everyone felt a little more secure, and could say, Just think, only 179 more to go! LOOKING AHEAD

it sa... 4 fi' On Friday, September 19, the Gates-Chili Spartans showed their school spirit at the first pep rally of the year. Mrs. Collichio led the cheers and taught the new freshmen and sophomores a little about pep rallies. The cheerleaders showed us their stuff while Mr. Tisa worried about cleaning up the confetti! The teams we recognized were Varsity and Junior Varsity Boys' and Girls' Soccer, Varsity and JV Football, Varsity and JV Swimming, Varsity and JV Tennis, and Boys' and Girls' Cross Country. Despite the blazing heat in the gymnasium, the Spartans remained cool, calm, and collected. LOOKING AHEAD
