State tourney memories include snowstorm, defeat of Port, citified hamburgers, outplaying 5th ranked Quay, and becoming 32 team in Oklahoma when defeated by Howe in mammoth Mun cipal Auditorium. The Gate Pirates ended the '58-'59 with a record of 20-5 and a winning percentage of 80 per cent. The Pirates were entered in two invitational tourneys, losing out in the semi-finals of the Northwestern State, and taking top honors in the Beaver County. The Pirates piled up a total of 1307 points compared to 1014 points for the opponents. This was an average of 52 points per game for the Pirates. The opponents average stood at 40 points. In spite of this distinct advantage, the Pirates, humbled by a wave of late season sickness, were toppled in District competition. Players lost via graduation are: Burl Landers, Jimmie Perkins, Larry Wilson, and Robert Avery.
