With a spirit of sincere humility intermingled with the joyful pride of achievement, as your sons and daughters our senior class is in- deed privileged to dedicate this 1959 PIRATE to you, Mom and Dad, To the Seniors and D. L. Harvey, the sponsor, I wish to express my sincere thanks and appreci- ation for making the PIRATE of 58-59, a IIS' mendous success. This annual marks the twelfth anniversary of the GATE PIRATE. It also marks a milestone in the lives of the '59 Seniors, who were in grade number one when the first PIRATE was produced. Much progress has been made during these twelve years. As the annuals became better and more complete, the students grew and advanced in their march to educational development. Now as the final goal in high school develop- menthasbeenreached for the '59 Seniors, so has another goal been reached for the GATE PIRATE. However, as the Seniors pass from Gate High, the PIRATE shall remain, and we all know that its high standard of quality shall continue to rise and be areminding tradition of classes in the past and those in the future. To you who are leaving us now, and you who shall remain, it is our sincere hope that you will have nourished your hopes and dreams for a brighter and happier future, We hope that we have helped to plant in you the desire to become the worthwhile citizens and leaders that we know you are capable of being. 2 fi? They were as follows: Rob- ert Avery, Johnnie Despain, Eugene Dixon, Burl Landers, Tommie Martin, Jimmy Perkins, Larry Wilson, Darlene Miller, Mary Shep- hard, Phyllis Moore, Bernice Whisenhunt, and Sharon Farrel. Due to moving and sickness from the first grade to the freshman year we lost Eugene Dixon, Johnnie DeSpain, Sharon Farrel, and Phyllis Moore. We had gained Charlene Dyer, and Rose Stahlman. When we were sophomores we welcomed back Phyllis. Bernice and Charlene decreased the wit and size of our class in our junior year. Our class is taking the final and fatal steps thirteen strong. We are Phyllis Moore, Mary Shephard, Robert Avery, Darlene Miller, Larry Wilson, Jimmie Perkins, Rose Stahlman, Burl Landers, and Tom Martin. We were pleased to welcome Mesdames Elva Whisenhunt, Elisa- beth Newby, Ruby Oswald, and Catherine Williamson in our senior year. Congratulations to these adults who are finishing their high school credits. We will always cherish the memories of our school life above all things. The lessons leamed and emotions experienced will be very profitable and beneficial. We will always have a warm spot in our hearts for those sharing victories and defeats that are remaining at Gate High to carry on the traditions that we tried to uphold in every possible way. 61444 7041! The seniors of '59 being of sound mind Q??j do leave this final will and testament. I, I, Mary Shephard, will my pony tail to Julia Graves and my ability to play the trumpet to my sister, Joyce. I, Phyllis Moore, will my boldness to Larry Heinz and my right arm basketball throwing ability to Konda Merett. I, Oz Avery, will my height to Mike Stockton and my studious nature to Eugene Dixon- QContinued to Page 535 GATE co-or AssocrAT1oN PERRYTON EQUITY Gate Knowles P As our rocket ship nears the outer space platform we stop suddenly. We get out to see what is wrong and find we are snagged on TOM MARTlN'S Ham Radio Antennae. We stop to talk with our old class- mate and find he has been on the platform for 10 years experimenting with moon mice. From there we go to Mars where we find DARLENE MILLER singing and directing the Choral Group consisting of her six daughters In our conversation with Darlene we find she owns the largest dress shop in all outer space. President and designer of her shop is none other than the old farm girl herself, MARY SHEPHARD. All the exquisite designs you see in outer space are designed and modeled my Miss Mary. In her one day off she rockets down to Hawaii to give her lecture on Personality Improvement at the Hawaii College for girls and designs the hula skirts. From Mars we journey back to Darkest Africa where we find OZZIE AVERY coaching and playing with the Harlem Globetrotters. The Globetrotters are warming up for their game with the African pigmies The Congo Longjohns. Ozzie says they are planning on playing a good fast game, but they could play better if Darkest Africa had some lights. From Darkest Africa to the coldest icebox in the world, Alaska, we find RUBY OSWALD fishing for and selling sardines by the box fulls. Ruby says that business is very good because in Alaska the people carry a can of sardines in their first aid kit for smelling salts. Heading back to warmer climate we stop off at Hawaii. There lounging under a palm tree drinking cocoanut milk shakes is none other than LARRY WILSON. Larry spends all his time under the palm tree except when he is working as president in the English department of the Hawaii College for girls. We find that Larry's favorite hula dancer is our old Gate High stomper, ROSE STAHL- MAN. Rose only does the hula in her spare time when she is not busy being a good mother to her 10 kids. We made the trip from Hawaii to N.Y. in five seconds. While we were carrying on a conversation in the decompressing unit we ran into our old friend, BURL LANDERS. Much to our amazement we found that Burl was piloting our rocket. He told us that the reason for the fast trip was that his coke break was in five seconds and he couldn't get off schedule. fCon't. to page 521 FIRST STATE BANK OWEN'S DRY GOODS Forgan Beaver VREAQX ml v F45 1 4'5 Q? ,ff f N 'l 'i.o'-... 232' exa Si' 0 O Q O I KONDA MERETT LARRY H, HEINZ BRUCE NEWBY BUDDY ZIRKLE EUGENE DIXON GERALD FITCH DELBERT DODSON BANK OF BEAVER CITY BARBY CATTLE CO, Beaver Beaver 'MY HP-Tl? oN THE SIDE oF WI HEP-D W 2 ' .' 21, fm: JOYCE ZIRKLE JOYCE SHEPHARD BUDDY LOCHNIR I IERRY PERKINS MIKE STOCKT ON BOB LOWRY GOODNER FUNERAL HOME HERALD DEMOCRAT Beaver Beaver THE IEAS1' SAY THE M gf A P fi x M, , f R, .F 0 - Q 6? In their time off from work Elizabeth leads the choir group of the Episcopalian Church and Catherine spends her spare time off chasing rare Australian butterflies for the New York Institute of Nat- ural Science.
