THIS TERM IS IMMENSELY MEANINGFUL TO ME BECAUSE THE FACULTY HERE IS CONCERNED WITH THE STUDENT AS A TOTAL PERSON. WE STRIVE TO TRANSCEND MERE INTELLECTUALIZING AND PRODUCE A BETTER, MORE FULFILLED GRADUATE. WE HOPE THAT IN THE TIME YOU SPEND AT GATE CITY HIGH SCHOOL, YOU WILL STRIVE TO BECOME AN INDEPENDENT LEARNER, TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN EDUCATION, TO BECOME FULFILLED. The Presidential Classroom for Young Americans provided a concentrated study of United States Government through direct exposure and personal contact with the institutions and leaders of the nation. The program created an awareness of the problems of modern democratic government, a greater understanding of American legislative, executive, and judicial processes, and a humanized appreciation of the political relationships and influences that shape our system of government and the conduct of its affairs. The Classroom pr ovided an innovative academic framework in which the students were encouraged to examine and assess the political process by meeting with and questioning national decision makers. The Classroom was strictly non-partisan and did not seek to influence legislation or policy or to organize opinion on behalf of any governmental or private interests. Miss Betty Snodgrass and Mrs. Fostena Parkey sponsored this participation in the Classroom for the first time in the history of Gate City High School.
