In three weeks we were wearing gunnv sack shorts and other apparel associated with initiation. Te were overehurdened with books. Friday of that vnforgetable third week we were placed in the most embarrassing predicament in front of the entire assembly. The sophomores gave us a party soon after At the end of our freshmen year we looked ahead to uphold our record as sophomores. In 1942-we entered an uneventful sophomore year. The l9L3-l9ub term proved to be the biggest and best of all. Several of us helped the Seniors produce their class play, which proved to be a huge success. In the spring we sponsored a banquet for the Senior Class in the Congregational Church. Both the Juniors and the Seniors came formal. The tables were decorated with red roses and white peonies. The Junior mothers did all the cooking. The evening was concluded by all attending a show at Hillsboro. Everyone had a very enjoyable time. it the beginning of our Senior year Oren King was elected president, Grace T. Vice-President, Betty Flenner Secretzry. After Christmas vacation we put on our class play HLet Ve Grow Up.n It was thoroughly enjoyed and manv people of the community sxid it was the best yet produced. 'e were proud of this as we enjoyed immensley producing it. Wise Wray was our director. We journeyed to Seaside for our skip day. Everyone enjoyed swimming in the ocean. This event was the most enjoyable of the year for the class. Bettie Ober was unable to accompany the class there because of illness. Viss Tray acted as chaperon and guardian. So as time flies along from hour to hour, day to day, and year to year, we find the time has come when we must leave our dear old Alma Mater. It is with great regret and a heart full of fond memories and recollections that we bid farewell to our fellow students, teachers and Gaston Union High School. ' . Mliiilii' ' ' - Sl .. 2 SENIOR CLASS UILL01946 KNOW ALL MEN, that we, the Senior Glass of l946, being of comparitively lto moronsj sound mind and body and as much in the possession of our senses as we have ever been, do bequeath the following: SECTION I Article I: To the faculty, we leave memories of many 5riII1ant minds which are equaled by few and surpassed by none--Amen! Article II: To the Juniors we leave the title of the HKings of the Schoolu--maybe their heads are too big for the crown though, we know ours were. Article III: To the Sophomores we leave our ambition and great initiative. CPaid Advertisementb. Article IV: To the Freshmen we leave--can't say they aren't gIEd to get rid of us!! Article X: To the school we leave our hopes for a bigger and better educational system to come. SECTION II Individually, we leave the following: ' I, BETTIE OBER, willed my hide to the making of this parchment. I, MARY KING, leave raising my eyebrow--can't raise a Victory garden and I can't raise any dough. I, LORINE LEE, leave to fulfill my life's ambition-- UComing, Bill.N I, GRACE TACHOLSKY, will my witamins, wim and wigor at the piano to next years unsuspecting stooge. I, DORIS REED, leave all my sympathy to all underclass men for their prolonged agony--I've escaped. , I, BETTY FLENNER, leave--calm, cool, oollccted, and collected--it's a wonder. Five days of school makes one weak. I, MILDR-D CAMPBELL, leave the school, well--you wouldn't want me to take it with me--would you? WE, the Senior Class of 1946 wish to leave our whole- hearted appreciation to our advisor, Mr. Keith Goldham er, and to our teachers. Mrs. Boak and Miss Wray, for every- thing they have done for us during our four f?J years at Gaston High, i P 5 a 5 F , CLASS PROPHECY While sitting reading the evening newspaper I happened upon an article written by the great Professor Noalski. His article read, Ulf you wish to look up friends you have not contacted for many years, come to see Professor Noalski at the sign of the Golden Hammor.nI thought this over care- fully and decided to see him the next morning. As I walked into the office I heard a jolly laugh which took me back to ny school days, so I was not surprised to see that the Professor was the ruler of my high school days. He had invented a magic screen that showed him a clear picture of the future. Having invented this magic screen he no longer wished to keep his common name so he had changed it to nNoalskin, while his trade mark was the sign of the nGolden Hammeru. We went into his laboratory and stood in front of a large screen. The Professor asked me with whom I would like to get in contact. I explained that I wanted to find out what each of my classmates was doing. We started with Grace Tacholsky. Professor Noalski snapped a few switches and pressed a few buttons and soon I could see, coming on the an opera house. Seated at Grace, and coming onto the screen, a platform. It was in the piano was our old friend stage, after much applauding, was the great operatic singer, Mildred Campbell. This took care of two of my classmates in one jump. The next person I thought of was Bettie Ober. She had always been so lively that I wondered what she was doing now. We saw coming upon the screen a calm peaceful farm scene. Standing in the doorway of a small house was Bettie Ober Q?J bidding her husband good-bye as he left for his work in the woods. I turned to the Professor and said, UI hope they are very happy.H Looking again at the picture on the screen, I saw a pair of twin boys sticking their heads out of a window.c NI guess she is,N replied the Professor. Turning the switch again we saw a small country school house. Seated on the front row are a young girl and her husband. Peeking over their shoulders we can just make out from the program that the next number is the two Zinn children singing NBell Bottom Treusers,U Who else could it be but Lorine Lee and family? If I E i v E I Class Prophecy--Continued Professor Nonlski finally said, uAnd what about Doris Reed and Mary King?' I told him that Doris, Mary, and I CBetty ' Flonnorl had kept together after our high school days and that Doris and I were now living together raising pedigreed cats while Mary tours the country giving inspirational lectures on our famous cats. WWel1,N I said, HI guess that is all of them.u We said good-bye and I loft for it was almost lunch time and I didn't want my poor cats to get hungry. Q r 3 K 5 H s QSi 'T 7'7 17 I l i If?
