WHO BARBARA CHANCE Homemaking An eager and capable student, Barbara Chance, is exceptionally in- terested in all phases of homemalcing. Her neatness, enthusiasm and desire to acquire correct techniques in such areas as clothing, foods, home management, relationships, crafts, and child care have been characteristics of her work during the four years of homemaking classes. Barbara has also completed two summer experiences and has been an active member of the Future Homemakers of America or- ganization, having served as local treasurer and president and also mi F. H. A. Area IX president. QQ CHARLES PENNINGTON Vocational Agriculture Charles' outstanding work in Vocational Agriculture has been proved in leadership of the F. F. A., a.nd his interest in producing and mar- keting livestock and poultry. After serving a year as junior president he was elected president of the chapter and chosen to represent his school at the F. F. A. National Convention held in Kansas City, Mis- souri. He has participated in leadership contest work for two years at Commerce, and went to A. S M. College in poultry judging in the spring of 1953. DARWIN WALKER p s' 1 Driver Education Darwin Walker entered the safety course witli an open mind and a good attitude, and he showed an increasing interest in all class pro- jects until his work began to outshine his fellow students. ln December he was chosen along with two other students to represent Gaston at the Lufkin District Workshop on Traffic problems. He was W serious in his participation at the workshop and returned to make an excellent report to the class. He had patience and understanding with the students assigned to him to instruct in driving. He also chose as a term project to build a re- action timing machine because he felt such a demonstration could be beneficial to other drivers taking the course. WHO' TOM PICKERING Boy's Physical Education Tom Pickering 's co-operation and quiet manner plus his interest and desire to win has won for him the highest honors in the physical edu- cation department. He has been an outstanding student in the field of athletics since he entered high school. Tom has participated in all sports at Gaston. He is an outstanding basketball and baseball player and was chosen as an all-district end in football. Along with athlet- ics he has also excelled in his academic work. His keen interest in sports will, no doubt, lead to many hours of en- joyment for Torn after graduation from Gaston. RUBY ANN HAYS Publications Ruby Ann held the two highest positions on the Gaston publications this year. She was Editor of the DEVlL'S DELIGHT and Co-Editor of the GASTON GUSHER. To attain these staff posts she began in lesser jobs three years ago and worked her way to the top. She has put in many extra hours on both staffs helping in all the little jobs that are necessary for a publication to succeed. Last year Ruby placed fourth in the lnterscholastic League Meet at Kilgore and also represented Gaston at the Texas High School Press Association. This year she represented the publications at T.H.S.P.A. and the Steck yearbook clinic at Austin. The past two years Ruby has written a weekly column called Gaston High School Round-up which appeared in the Henderson Daily News and the Longview Daily News. This job increased her much needed un:-....., ,,.. ,im experience. All this training has made Rubes begin to think of a journalistic career and thus the fourth estate has received a worthy member. George's interests are wide and varied, and he names hymns and Ne ro ' ' ' ' g spirituals as his favorite types of music. BARBARA HARDY Business Barbara is a proficient business student. Her sincere attitude al t ' ' I er personality, and desire to emulate previous re ds cor will make it possible for her to attain worthy heights in the busi- ness field. She is a capable neat bookk , eeper, and takes legi- ble shorthand which she transcribes rapidly in an acceptable form. Barbara entered busi ' ness training with the determina- tion to be skillful, and her aptitude and persistence are re- warded by the honor she now holds as the representative stu- dent of business education. FLOYD COOPER Math Floyd has made a place for himself, in the field of math eu- rnatics by his straight thinking and his persistent work in fol- 1 . owing each problem to a successful conclusion. v-4 Md By taldng four years of high school mathematics, Floyd has shown that he realizes the importance of mathematics i thi n s scientific ages thereby, he deserves a place in Who's Who.
