CLASS On the morning of September 6, 1937, thirty- two bright and shiny little faces looked up ex- pectantly as Mrs. Leila DeWeerd called the roll. The names of the thirty-two 'sweet little kidsn who began their long journey through the many experiences of school were as follows: Janis Abney, Eugene Applegate, Iva Jean Armstrong, Fred Black, ClaytonCurtis,Patsy Domenos, James Fouch, Beverly Gourley, Patty Hamm, Carolyn Helm, Gene Hoffman, Gertrude Huston, Earl Jett, Bruce Maddy, Marilyn Milhollin, Beverly Mosier, Robert Needler, Joan Pankey, Mary Lou Parker, Joan Payne, Elmer Powell, Christine Rehme, Charles Russell, Marjorie Rutledge, Jerry Shaw, Richard Slater, Robert Snodgrass, Belva Turner, Wanda Vanatter, Ronald Vergil, Charles Wright, and Earl Herron. Only seven of our graduating class began school life together. They areJames Pouch, Gene Hoffman, Beverly Mosier, Robert Needler, Mary Lou Parker, Christine Rehme, andRichard Slater. While we were learning our A B C's we gained two new students and lost several. New students who enrolled during the year were Betty LouDun- lap and Willard Glassburn. Those who withdrew were Ronald Vergil, Earl Herron, Earl Jett, Clayton Curtis, Marjorie Rutledge, Robert Snod- grass, Eugene Applegate, Joan Payne, Betty Lou Dunlap, Elmer Powell, Iva Jean Armstrong, Bev- erly Gourley, and Charles Wright. Mrs. Talmadge was our teacheraswe progress- ed to our second year of school. Among the new facesseenthis year were Charles Black, Rebecca Harshman, and Billy McCollum. Carolyn Helm, Jackie Purnell, Roberta Lycann, Rebecca Harsh- man, James Roger, and Gertrude Huston withdrew from our class. In the third grade, itwas necessary that our class be divided. Because of this we had two teachers, Miss Rehme and Mrs. Broyles. Several new students enrolled during this year. Some of them were Mary Brown, Dorothy Chapman, Ruth Glass, and Frances Morrison. Janis Abney, Patty Hamm, Gene Hoffman, Charles Russell, and Billy McCollum left our class. The beginning1ofour fourth year brought more new students toour class. Among them were Rose- mary Conner, Doris Welsh, Helen Phenis, Carl Irelan, Perry Irelan, and David Lacy. Mary Brown, Dorothy Chapman, Ruth Glass, Frances Morrison, JoanPankey, willardGlassburn, Charles Black, Dixie Rogers, and Helen Phenis withdrew. Our teachers were Mrs. Broyles and Mrs. Benbow. Mrs. Benbow was our fifth grade teacher. New students who joined our ranks were Wendell Glass, Marvin Blake, and Norma Marshall. Wanda Vanatter, Rosemary Conner, Doris Welsh, Carl Irelan, Perry Irelan, Morris Agler, and Roy Bricker, Jr. left our group. ' Mr. Collins helped us continue our journey as we neared thehalfway markeofour school life. There were several withdrawals this year. They were Marilyn Milhollin, Jerry Needler, Wendell Glass, Earl Jett, and Tom McHugh. HISTORY The big day finally arrived--we felt we were really progressing now because at last we were a part ofthe assembly. At first wewere entire- ly lost and there were so many new things to learn we thought wewould never catch on--but with everyone helping us we soon began to feel at home. Now that we had completed half of our schooling, our class seemed to be steadily diminishing. Starting with thirty-two members we now had only fifteen. We welcomed two new students, Joyce Vaughn and Helen King but we lost Patsy Domenos, Bruce Maddy, Jerry Shaw, Belva Turner, David Lacy, and Norma Marshall. We elected Mrs. Fornwald as our first sponsor. Our eighth year brought Doris Walsh, Charles Russell, and Frances Nicely. Helen King with- drew. Mr. White was our sponsor. The year 1945 arrived and we were Freshmen. Of course like all Freshmen we were green and had to be initiated by the Sophomores. Although we felt pretty foolish, we had a lot of fun. Our class roll increased with the joining of Agatha Hartley and Max Kirkwood. Joyce Vaughn moved to California. Mrs. Fornwald was our sponsor this year. We lost three members during our Sophomore year, Fred Black, Doris Walsh, and Charles Russell and gained David Burton, Rayelda Tinkle, and Robert Needler, who rejoined us after four years. We were beginning to think about making money for our Senior Trip by this time. We elected Mrs. Fornwald as our sponsor who helped us with our activities. Among these were the making and selling of uwhoopie mops' for the County Tourney and the sponsoring of a class basketball tournament. Having reached the title of Juniors, we re- elected Mrs. Fornwahiasour sponsor. Paul Smith and Pat Wright enrolled in our class during the year but we lost Agatha Hartley, Max Kirkwood, and Paul Smith. We continued planningourSenior Trip by sponsoring a Junior Carnival, selling ice cream, pop, and candy at our ball games and and during our lunch hour, and giving our Junior play NTwixteen,H We also sponsored a Junior- Senior Reception this year. 'M' Now that we are Seniors, we have reached our goal. This year we gained two new members, Gene Hoffman, who returned to us after nine years, and Gene Lasater. we re-elected Mrs. Fornwald our sponsor and continued making money' for our Senior Trip to Washington D.C. and New York. We also completed plans forgraduation. Some of our activities during the year were selling popcorn at our ball games, selling magazine subscrip- tions, ourSenior play, uEV6ryb0dy'S Crazy Now,N serving the Junior High Basketball Team, and sponsoring the school yearbook, 'Aurora, 1949.0 On April 24 and 30, Baccalaureate and Commence- ment exercises were held and we were presented with our diplomas.
