Text from Pages 1 - 200 of the 1975 volume:

THE REVELEER is a book of memories from Gaston College. Into these pages you will find crammed a years life. The whole story can t be found here, only pieces, moments designed to echo these passing days and prod a thought, a remembrance. 1975 Reveleer Skim the pages for now; look for yourself caught unawares. The pictures are to be laughed at and enjoyed and treasured — and ten years from now to be mocked at for their peculiar clothes and hair styles and activities. 4 .. o But when the mist of time clouds the memory and you are far from these foothills, The Reveleer will, for a moment. 6 You will glimpse the face of a forgotten friend, a treasured event, a campus romance, a favorite teacher. Then there will be a smile, maybe a tear, but always and forever a memory. 7 m 8 Gaston College is many things. It’s students going to class . . . it’s laughter in the student center . . . standing in line at registration . . . lasting friendships . . . weary eyes at exams ... a mist hanging low over the campus ... a scramble for a parking place. Most of all, it is people . . . people seeking the constant challenge . . . the desire to excel ... a blending of divisions and disciplines. I 9 In an atmosphere conducive to study, students toil as they grasp awareness, happiness, and achievement. 10 Each student may look back into the past, examining the aspects of Gaston College that rendered this service and helped mold character and cultivate maturity . . . look Students may leave this college nestled in the foothills with a real vision of service . . . back at the challenges encountered . . . and the results . . . And when they leave, they realize that this was truly a kind of growing ... a kind of maturing . . . a kind of “home.” 12 13 14 15 v' ORIENTATION IS: EXPECTATION CONFUSION ILLUSION INVOLVEMENT 23 m a MA 24 25 26 27 a r 28 As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. 29 30 Growing steel beam by beam, block on block, the stark white structures that make up Gaston College have risen on the landscape bordering Highway 321. As the College enters its second decade, we stand like the two-faced Roman god Janus, looking backward at the progress of the past and forward to the new student union to be constructed in mid-campus. 32 v -: - ' ' ; • ' 33 I mmm SWmSiMm fBBmSm To youth and pragmatism ... A full military career in the Army Corps of Engineers gave him world-wide opportunities in building men and facilities for the armed forces of the United States. Settling down in the South has provided the oppor- tunity for building minds at Gaston College. Col. Galanti has fulfilled both careers with distinction. Col. Galanti directed the Self-Study which led to the Col- lege’s initial accreditation by the Southern Association and has made his mark on the institution in numerous other ways. We have stood in awe at his courage in the face of personal grief and rejoiced when at last the POW's came home. With gratitude for ten years of friendship and dedicated service, we say, “Thank you and Godspeed.” 39 Dr. Woodrow B. Sugg, President Dr. Joseph L. Mills,Vice-Presiden Dr. Jimmie W.
