President Dr. Woodrow B. Sugg Administrator, mediator, and leader characterize a few of the multitudinous roles that the head of our college, Dr. Woodrow B. Sugg, aptly fills. As adminis- trator. he must supervise all functions in the broad spectrum of the college program from social, aca- demic and athletic, to the most complex financial considerations. His roles of mediator and leader are the most tedious, yet our chief executive accepts these with human sensitivity, responsibility, and progressiveness. In a position between the students (the body of the college) and the trustees, teachers, supporters, and decision-makers, he acts responsively to all. Making a personal effort to know the students, their problems and ideas, yet always focusing on the one goal of seeking, formulating, and activating new ideas, our President is working to make Gaston truly a school of the 1970’s. 26

Dedication Spirit is not possessed. Spirit is a restless, driving force that cannot be contained in one field. And when it dwells in a person, an in- tangible aura of uniqueness can be felt around them. They are able to move through a spectrum of ideas and events beyond the experience of ordinary people. Those with Spirit have feeling for many things. One of the heralds of the college motto, one of the leaders in the advance on knowledge and life, one of the counsels in the struggle to help us know ourselves has been Dr. Charles Wimmer. Our yearbook is dedicated to Dean Wimmer for his service, instruction, guidance, and friendship to the students at Gaston College. This dedication is not enough; it only begins to say and mean what so many will know and feel when Dr. Charles Wimmer's re- tirement becomes reality. Dr. Charles Robert Wimmer, Dean of College Parallel
