The 1970 REVELEER is dedicated to a man whose record of service to Gaston College speaks for itself. His hours of work go uncounted; he makes no mention of them. Since joining the college staff in 1966, he has accepted responsibility willingly and has carried out his duties in a truly superior manner, maintaining at all times a warmth and friendliness of spirit that is uniquely his own. His title of Dean of Instruction of all Programs seems hardly adequate to cover the scope of his work. Because of his dedicated service, his never ending cooperation, and his sincere interest in young people, the students respectfully dedicate the 1970 REV- ELEER to Mr. George S. McSwain. 21

president Dr. Woodrow B. Sugg To the President of Gaston Col- lege is given the sometimes dif- ficult, often impossible, task of uni- fying the many divergent factions that compromise the whole of a living institution such as Gaston College. The keynote is progress, and the instrument is harmony for Dr. Woodrow B. Sugg. Challenged by a capable and de- manding student body, Dr. Sugg has been continually sympathetic to the collegiate student mood. His sincerity in dealing with student opinion, whether it be from the Student Legislature or an individual student, has won for him the re- spect of the Student Body. Encouraged by an ever-loyal alumni and community friends of the college, Dr. Sugg’s administra- tion has welcomed with grateful en- thusiasm a record-breaking Building Fund Campaign. The construction of the new Industrial Building and Activities and Fine Arts Building shows early promise and indicates the progressive direction Dr. Sugg hopes to follow, aided by students, faculty. Board of Trustees, alumni and other friends of the college. Dedicated to the total academic advancement of the college. Dr. Sugg has maintained his interest in providing Gaston with the best fac- ulty and academic equipment in the history of the institution at a time when the college sits at the thres- hold of optimum service to the people and industrial firms of the area. 22
