HE Gas City High School hasetyatt team started the season of 1044 with seven veterans, six ot Whom were Seniors. These Seniors wanted to end their high schoot hasehatt careers in a 'totaze ot gtory. They did thy 'hringing home the Grant County Championship trophy-tor the tirst time since 1959,-4 atter an undefeated season. Septemher 6 began the season, with the Gas City-Jonesboro game in which the Tigers defeated the Zeihras in a score ot 10-6. The Tigers tootc Sweetser for a toss ot 20-7 on September 15, at the Gwens ball tietd. At the Gas City-Van 'Buren game, September 15, Gas City hetd Van Buren 11-0 untit the tast half of the seventh. Gass 'City made their 'onty error in the tast inning matting the 'tinat score 21-4. The Swayzee Speecttcings ptayed the Tigers September 20. After a hard tight the Tigers remained on top with a score ot 20-4. The Fairmount Quakers were the next team to ptay Gas City September 27, and Went home with the score 20-5 in favor ot Gas City. On Qctoher 2, the Tigers won the County 'Championship from the Jefferson Yeomen with the score 6-0. The game tasted onty three and a hatt innings and was catted oft because ot the 'heavy rain. At the end ot the season, tV1cC1ure, Netson, Rhoct-ay and Atkinson were among the first ten as teading contenders tor the -batting championship ot 'Grant County. Page Forty-five
