T H E E P O C H 5: 51 CLASS PRGPI-IECY The other evening, I was very sleepy: so I went to bed before supper Later I awoke very hungry: so I decided to get something to eat. I came down stairs, and all I could find was some sauer kraut and mince pie. l finished my midnight lunch with a malted 1nilk and a pickle. I then felt as if I had received a surliciency and retired again. Iialling asleep, I soon found myself twenty-five years ahead of time. I was in New York in the Metropolitan Opera Company. I was walking down Broadway and thought I recognized a familiar face, and who was it but the former Ida Lee Fish with her daughter who resembled her identically. She said her son, only nineteen. was following in the footsteps of her husband as a violinist. He was in Chicago giving a concert at that time. That evening, Ida Lee and I went to dinner at the Ritz and while eating, whom did we see coming toward us but two very handsome gentlemen, whom we recognized as Halter l'ratt and Ralph Groves lformerly Mutt and lliddie l and two young ladies, neither of whom we knew. XYe later learned that Mutt and Biddie had never been able to settle down and were still looking for one who would suit them. They said that they had been in Cincinnati a week before and had seen Geraldine Stevens. She had married a millionaire and was enjoying all the luxuries of life. They had also seen Geneva Walker and her husband just entering a 'theatre but were unable to talk to them. Since Mutt and Biddie had been traveling extensively we were glad to hear what they knew. Mutt said that Bucky Day was following his father's footsteps. and was Mayor of St. Louis. Darrow I'earson and Donald Simons we1'e both basketball coaches and were great successes. Ida Lee said while she was visiting her son she saw Flames lformerly Bustoffil and Juanita lI-Ielmsl Brown in Chicago. james was the president of a large chain of grocery stores, and was very happy. Douglas Iden was last seen in Los Angeles, preparing for a trip to China where he was going to try to promote education. After so much talking, it was getting late: so I bade adieu and left to get ready for my appearance that evening. planning to see them after the opera performance. 1 9 2 9 Page nineteen
