Prowlings ---The Year In Review Tuesday, September 6, was the first day of school for Gary students. First class meetings were Friday, September 9. Tigers lost to Alumni in first football game Friday, September 16. The Frosh were initiated during the clay, with a party in their honor the evening of September 16. School bought two new tyipewriters. Front school yard was given a new face, thanks to Supt. R-einecke and boys. Gary played Volga at Volga September 23. National Assemblies Programs presented Dutch Humorist at Gary High September 28. September 30 the Tigers met Cardinals at Clear Lake in a football game. English classes ordered Readers Digests. No school on Monday, October 3, Institute. Elkton 'played football here in the rain October 7. Tiger Tales staff attended the annual South Dakota High School Press Association meeting at Brookings October 8. Tiger Day, October 14, was filled to the brim with activities. South Dakiota Education Association meeting gave Gary students a two-day vacation October 17 and 18. Volga Troubadors entertained students October 20. Student Council sponsored party October 21. October 28 the Tigers played Egan at Egan. Junior Business class started School Savings Bank. Tigers finished season with night football game at Revillo November 4. November '11 the students observed Armistice day with a program and half-day vacation. Local Declam contest -was November 16. Melo-Marimbas appeared in assembly 'pnogram November 22. Students presented Tlhanks- giving program November 23. Enjoyed Thanksgiving vacation November 24 and 25. District Declam Contest was held at Clear Lake December 1. Ti-ger Roars was presented December 2. Regional Declam Contest was at Madison December 7. Alumni kept cowbell by defeating Tigers at first basketball game December 9. Basketball game at Goodwin December 13. Swiss Family Robinson movie was shown in school December 14. Junior class ,play was presented December 16 and 17. Basketball game was played at Toronto December 19. PTA Christmas program, December 20, had all-higih school play, Why The Chimes Rang. High school-alumni Christmas party December '22 hlad skit contest won by the Freshmen. December 23 started our ten-day Christmas vacation. January 6 the Tigers played basketball at South Shore. Goodwin played at Gary January 13. The Juniors gave Hard Times -party January 20. County Basketball Tourna- ment January 26 and 27 at Astoria. Toronto played basketball at Gary January 31. Clear Lake basketball team was at Gary Friday, February 3. State-Regional solo and ensemble :music contest at Milbank February 8. Basketball game at Gastlewood, February 13. Grade basketball tournament February 17. Revillo .played at Gary Febru- ary 20. February 23, 24, 25, were dates of District Basketball Tournament of Watertown. The students studied for a week. Juniors sponsored Basket Social March 10. Mr. Nelson of National Assem-blles gave demonstration of snakes March 14. Students attended movie, Hamlet, in Canby, March 15. Grade operetta, Twilight Alley, was presented March 24. Freshmen gave folk dancing party March 31. Easter vacation started April 7 and ended April 11. Gir1's Cihorus entered Music Contest at Watertown April 14. April 26 Gary won county One-Act Play Contest staged at Gary. We had two winners in Typing Contest at Clear Lake April 27. Seniors gave their play, Spooky Mountain, May lland 13. Baccalaureate services Sunday, May 14. Junior-Senior Banquet May 16. Seniors skipped to Sioux Falls May 18. Hlgih School Commencement exercises with R. Y. Chapman, Brookings, speaker, were held May 19 at School for Blind gymnasium. Eighth Grade graduation was May 22. An all-high school picnic at Stony Point, Lake Kampeska, brought the school year to a close. 26
