Front row, left to right: James Eng, Tom Law, Richard Gordon. William Taylor. Raymond Eng, captain: Eugene Moter, James Denekamp, Francis Dunn. The 1949-50 season started with Coach Christianson building his team around six Tigers that saw action the previous year. Eight inexperienced players completed the squad. Although their record was not impressive, they worked hard and won two out of eight games. The first two games were away from home, and were dropped to Volga and Clear Lake by scores of 26-6 and 51-0, respectively. In the lirst home game, Elluton squeezed by for a thrilling 13-12 victory. The Gary six then got in the victory column by downing the South Shore Comets. 36-118, on Tiger Day. The next three games were lost to Wilmot, 46-6: Egan, 15-03 Marietta, 40-12. In the final game the Tigers beat Revillo 316-16. under lights. The starting line-up is shown in formation, using the gym floor instead of the gridiron. 12

A new amendment, to include class presidents as Student Council members, was added to the Constitution of the Gary High School Student Association at the beginning of this year. Officers elected at the end of last year to serve the 1949-'50 term were: Richard Lovaas, presidentg Elaine Benner, vice-presidentg Raymond Eng, secretary-treasurer. The Student Council sponsored the Homecoming events, gave a party following Tiger Day, sponsored a magazine drive for a two-week period at the first semester, and ax'- ranged other events of the year. Tiger Roars The Seniors sponsored an all-high school variety show, Tiger Roars , with the hope that this would be made an annual event. The program was varied, having the following acts: La Flopettef' Russian -ballet-Sophomore and Senior girls Grandma's Grievance, pantomine-Juniors. Information Please, dialogue-Seniors Melody Mutineersf' radio commercial satire-Sextette Go1dilocks and the Three Bears, new story-Sophomores. Jesse James, frontier drammer-Seniors Pocket Edition Minstrel -Freshmen Grand Finale, short indeed-All Troupe 11

Fourteen men reported to the Tiger Lair at the opening of basketball season for 1949-1950, and competed in a schedule of eleven games. They played hard, but never managed to win a game. Lack -of height fwas a -great handicap to t-he squad this year, as in recent years. Gary entered the County Tournament at Astoria, They drew a bye and lost C1 game with G-oodwin. This put the Tigers in the Consolation and which game was 1-ost to Astoria. Clear Lak-e took the County championship. h The District 9 Tcurnrment was at Watertown. Gary also had a bye there and lost a close game to Waverly .by a score of 3.6-43. S-Erandburg was the District 9 champion for the second straight year. The system of game captains was -used and no season captain was named. The various team members served as captain at the games. Grade School Baskelball The four male members of the faculty coached four grade school basketball teams chosen by lot, called the Dodgers, Giants, Yanks, and Braves. Appropriately garbed with orange or 'black shirts prepared' expressly for .a tournament on February 17, the boys played games that were exciting and hard-fcught, the championship tussle being a thriller. 13
