A new amendment, to include class presidents as Student Council members, was added to the Constitution of the Gary High School Student Association at the beginning of this year. Officers elected at the end of last year to serve the 1949-'50 term were: Richard Lovaas, presidentg Elaine Benner, vice-presidentg Raymond Eng, secretary-treasurer. The Student Council sponsored the Homecoming events, gave a party following Tiger Day, sponsored a magazine drive for a two-week period at the first semester, and ax'- ranged other events of the year. Tiger Roars The Seniors sponsored an all-high school variety show, Tiger Roars , with the hope that this would be made an annual event. The program was varied, having the following acts: La Flopettef' Russian -ballet-Sophomore and Senior girls Grandma's Grievance, pantomine-Juniors. Tiger Day The pepfest and snake dance Thursday evening, October 13, touched off the spark to the 1950 Homecoming Tiger Day, which was filled with thrills and excitement. The Sophomores won float honors with their orange and black tiger float ln the parade. The Tigers really showed their fangs by defeating the South Shore Comets 36-18 in the afternoon football game. i 1 are The grade school children gave a program at the school in the evening, followed by the coronatlon of the King and Queenf. Robert Burns and Jo Ann Law received the majority of penny votes and so were crowned the 1950 royalty. The carnival presented by the students at the Prom theatre that evening attracted a large number of people. 10

Front row, left to right: James Eng, Tom Law, Richard Gordon. William Taylor. Raymond Eng, captain: Eugene Moter, James Denekamp, Francis Dunn. The 1949-50 season started with Coach Christianson building his team around six Tigers that saw action the previous year. Eight inexperienced players completed the squad. Although their record was not impressive, they worked hard and won two out of eight games. The first two games were away from home, and were dropped to Volga and Clear Lake by scores of 26-6 and 51-0, respectively. In the lirst home game, Elluton squeezed by for a thrilling 13-12 victory. The Gary six then got in the victory column by downing the South Shore Comets. 36-118, on Tiger Day. The next three games were lost to Wilmot, 46-6: Egan, 15-03 Marietta, 40-12. In the final game the Tigers beat Revillo 316-16. under lights. The starting line-up is shown in formation, using the gym floor instead of the gridiron. 12
